What kind of crap is this? "respect for sovereign nations ", you mean like Iraq? And as for "I know where he is" That's a bunch of Crap, too. Dude knows where he is my ass. Propaganda BS intended to make it look like they're trying hard to find him, and to make the BA seem like a gentle giant respective of other countries sovereignty. Bah.
Goss Claims He Has Idea Where Bin Laden Is

Mon Jun 20,12:45 PM ET

NEW YORK - The director of the
CIA says he has an "excellent idea" where
Osama bin Laden is hiding, but that the United States' respect for sovereign nations makes it more difficult to capture the al-Qaida chief.

In an interview with Time for the magazine's June 27 issue, Porter Goss was asked about the progress of the hunt for bin Laden.

"When you go to the question of dealing with sanctuaries in sovereign states, you're dealing with a problem of our sense of international obligation, fair play," Goss said. "We have to find a way to work in a conventional world in unconventional ways."

Asked whether that meant he knew where bin Laden is, Goss responded: "I have an excellent idea where he is. What's the next question?"

Goss did not say where he thinks bin Laden is, nor did he specify what country or countries he was referring to when he spoke of foreign sanctuaries. But American officials have long said they believed bin Laden was hiding in rugged mountains along the Afghan-Pakistani border.

Never occurred to you this might be a ploy to make him move ?

Hey, I have an idea, let's get the press out there to do an inquiry and investigative journalist piece to see if Mr. Goss can back up his claim.

See, a few things could happen if we really know where he is.

1. He can believe it, and move. At which point even if we don't know where he is we can ....... see something moving.

2. He can not believe it and not move. At which point, if we do know where he is we can, get him.

Now, I say we go ahead and let this ride out and let Mr. Goss do what he's doing. I mean, I don't know shit about this little game being played and I suspect that 99.9% of the internet chat board community, the actors and actresses in Hollywood, the DNC chairs, the reporters and journalists have about the same level of knowledge and experience in this as I do. 'Nil.

But by all means, let's continue to do what we here at home have been doing to fuck things up and make life difficult for the guys out there on the job.

I have a better idea,

Notify the sovereign country in question that we have the exact location of OBL and they have 48 hours to put together a task force to round him up. If not, a special forces unit will be sent in to get him, and they'd better not shoot it down. Or else We'll tell the world what happened and what it was they failed to do about it.

This posturing bullshit in the press won't work.

Uhhh... Pakistan has a nuclear arsenal.

You're not telling them what to do, now....or ever.

Then hold them accountable for harboring a mass murderer.

They're shaking in their sandals I'm sure.

When American troops are not allowed unfettered access to possible terrorist hiding places in Pakistan, and the Pakistani intelligence service (ISI) feeds dubious reports to the U.S. State Department, you gotta wonder about the bullshit factor in this whole "War On Terror".

Pakistan is playing you for a bunch of chumps, and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it.
What's the opposite of "potent".....Oh yeah...."impotent".

If you think you know where Bin Laden is, wouldn't you keep your mouth shut about it? That's akin to "we know where the Beltway Sniper is, but we're not going after him yet."

Or, "We know who Clinton slept with, but we're waiting to contact her."

Uh, anyone smart enough to successfully plot the destruction of the twin towers is not going to buy a Tommy Flanagan-esque press conference saying
"We know where he is":

"Yeah I know where he is, sure, In fact, I rented him the cave where he's hiding. Yeah, that's the ticket."

Dude the entire Third Reich* was fooled into thinking the invasion was coming ...... where it wasn't .... because Patton was moved, CARDBOARD TANKS lined up in a mock motor pool, and dead British bums cleaned and dressed as officers carrying "papers", dropped in the channel to float ashore so the Krauts could find them and report the "intel" they've just stumbled upon.

Seriously, I know we're supposed to not underestimate our enemies such that we can defeat them, but why aren't you willing to give some of our people the same respect ? Why can't you be willing to allow them the benefit of the doubt in knowing that they know more about this stuff THAN YOU.

Oh I know, this is just a ploy for Bush to be re-elected isn't it ?

But do you agree this could be some sort of bluff ? Or do you think it's more of an attempt at placating* the American people ?

Bullshitting

Tom, I think both you and mvscal are exactly right. I think they have zero clue where he's at and are using the media to try to get him to move.

Well, that's besides the point. I just think they're trying to do something here and don't know for sure whether they know or not. Just seems to me, there's a point to it.

Then again I could be venturing too far off into the land of

Image

I mean, clearly, Osama would think if they did know, they wouldn't announce it, I mean that would be inconceivable.

I'm holding fast to let 'em work, and this is a ploy to cause some activity and monitor it.

What real good would that do? he could be anywhere. It would be a total lucky strike if he DID panic and DID move AND we stumbled upon him.

Adn this would only work if OBL WAS in a sovereign nation (other than iraq and afghanistan or along the borders of same), because if he isn't in a place the US cannot go, he'll know they're full of shit.

What I'm saying is that A) official dude claims to know exactly where OBL is, and B) Bushlied said that any nation harboring terrorists that doesn't cooporate will get scorched earth.

I'm just wondering which of the two government officials is telling a bald-faced lie.

The answer is both.
