Just heard some guy on NPR hyping this group. I was surprised just how much they sounded like the Breeders. Anyone know more about this outfit and whether they are worth investigating.

We probably would, if you posted a YouSendIt.com link when you brought up the name of some unknown band.

Bitch, I don't know shit about them beyond the fact that some dude on NPR liked 'em better than Coldplay and they sound like the Breeders. Enable my laziness and wait until Donovan or some Denver clone speaks up.

i'd rather listen to pod.

Let's use logic:
If this new band sounds like the Breeders and you like the Breeders, then you will like this new band.

best band in Denver is Devotchka.
or 16 horsepower, which is in kind of hiatus with a spinoff called woven hands.
i can't argue with some cat from NPR, but Dressy Bessy is good but second tier IMHO.

Don't know about most places, but does the best band from an area ever get the most pub?
Sure doesn't work that way here, anyway.

i'd also add a Colorado/now LA based hip hop band the Procussions. they are pretty damned good.
i'd say they *almost* stole the show opening for Mos Def last fall at the venerable Boulder Theatre. fuck it, i like Mos, but they did.

I've upped their first album,
Pink Hearts Yellow Moons... just for you.
I like 'em enough, but I don't think they're on par with the Breeders. I'd say they're more in the league of Beulah, or something like that.

That depends on what you mean by pub. If you're talking mainstream exposure then you're absolutely right, but I think the indie media is usually far more aware of what's going on "underground".
They may not be the best, but the most fun band in Calgary is definitely
Sudden Infant Dance Syndrome. Those songs don't do them justice. They're a bunch of kids just having fun making music, and it shows in the live show. Unfortunately they're breaking up after only 8 months together.

They're actually the ones I thought were the worst offenders. They tend to be A LOT more into what's "hip" than what's good.
Well hell, Sleater-Kinney is one of the more talked about bands around here(by you guys, anyway), and I could name off a whole buncha local bands that would blow them off the stage.

Fire away. But you've already mentioned Dr. Papadopoulos a gazillion times so you can save your breath on that one.

hehe
But they're a gazillion times better than the I-5 Exits. Also better than the Decemberists, which they'll be proving on the same stage on 8/12(rules to be me, sucks to be you).
Someday, Dr Theopolis will be the hottest band in the land, and you'll be saying "I knew this guy from Smackchat, and....." You will all then ISSUE my dopeness.

I know that I missed them at Dante's Low Dough Show last night for $5.
I'm pretty sure I'll get over it.
I always dig Dante's. If you can stand up long enough to complete your drink order, they'll serve you. Probably not a good thing, but that is how I roll.
