And that's where Durbin went off the rails. That's where Durbin was no longer quoting the report but editorializing about the contents of the report.

For a comparison to be at all illuminating, the things compared must be more than trivially related. Supposing, then, that Durbin took himself to be saying something illuminating, he must have thought that killing 20 million people and exposing prisoners to loud rap music belong to the same class of prinsoner treatment. :roll:

That's merely an exaggeration??

We recognize that was Hitler did represents the outer limits of evil. He is at the top of the food chain (though it is funny that Hitler gets the most attention despite Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot going way further with their extermination policies).

Comparing relatively minor abuse to the brutal torture and murder of tens of millions trivializes this mass extermination.

For an enemy combatant to foul himself in a hot room is an unpleasant thing. For an innocent civilian to be murdered is rather worse; and when such murders aggregate into the millions and tens of millions, that is something unfathomably worse.

What is occuring at Gitmo, Abu Gharib (sp?), ect. is no way shape or form even comparable to what occured in Nazi Germany, Siberia, and Southeast Asia. To assert something like only can lead to one of two conclusions for me on Durbin: 1) That he is absolutly far too ignorant and/or moronic to be serving in Congress or 2) He is simply a dishonest person hoping and searching for a sound bite on CNN. I tend to think it is the later and now its time for him to reep what he sowed.
