No, Durbin read a report detailing scenarios
"Scenarios?"
Just a moment ago you were treating these scenarios as facts. What happened?
that run counter to everything we as Americans believe is proper
WTF do you know about what Americans feel is proper? You're in no position to speculate here.
But we're still talking about minor physical abuse, loud music, varying temperatures, etc.
Are Americans disgusted by this treatment? Link?
and said that a person reading said report "would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime - Pol Pot or others - that had no concern for human beings."
Yeah, he is speculating that a reader would find this treatment comparable to what the Nazi's, Soviets, and Khmer Rouge did to millions and millions.
What don't you get? He is drawing a comparison, dipshit.
Not in the nature of all soldiers. But certainly in the nature of some. That is beyond debate.
Did you see Durbin qualify his comparison?
Talk about reckless hyperbole.
What did I exaggerate??
We recognize that was Hitler did represents the outer limits of evil. He is at the top of the food chain (though it is funny that Hitler gets the most attention despite Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot going way further with their extermination policies).
Comparing relatively minor abuse to the brutal torture and murder of tens of millions trivializes this mass extermination.
For an enemy combatant to foul himself in a hot room is an unpleasant thing. For an innocent civilian to be murdered is rather worse; and when such murders aggregate into the millions and tens of millions, that is something unfathomably worse.
Do you disagree with this??
