It's an attempt to distance and pervert the historically known facts that Republicans have been less racist than the democrats. It's a long shot, but why not begin with Lincoln.
It's going to be interesting to see Osama Mubarek of Illinois explain away Senator Byrd, Gore's father and the Dems that tried to thwart attempts at Civil Rights.

Living in the past much? Let me know when you can reconcile the influx of southern Dems into the GOP after 1968. Keep telling yourself it had nothing to do with the rejection of George Wallace's politics amongst mainstream Democrats and Nixon's deliberate pandering to said racists.
