Joe really doesn't need to be great. He just needs to get the ball into the hands of those skills receivers and Jones get 25 carries a game...they should be fine. I'm hoping their additions to the secondary help also. The Lions should be able to score points but they need to keep the other team out of the end zone also.

I have even less faith in my team this year as I have in the past and I definitely don't see a superbowl much less playoffs. Granted I'll still be in front of that TV (or at Invesco) cheering them on, but I'm not expecting much this year.

On defense sure we managed to keep Ian Gold and Trevor Pryce but it takes more than just two veterans to carry out the phrase "defense wins championships". With the Browns defense now on the Broncos, the so called "#3" or "#4" defense in the NFL is long gone.

Plummer has even less help around him now. Our legendary RB position isn't going to be what it used to be. Mike Anderson is coming off knee surgery and this guy is aging a bit too and even coming off the injury he still won't be able to contribute as he has in the past. Clarette wouldn't have contributed much anyway except for maybe getting caught with the hippy lettuce, an East Colfax whore or getting a DUI after celebrating a preseason win in true Ohio State fashion. I don't see Jerry Rice getting much playing time except in the preseason, but it's hard to run and catch a ball without the use of a walker. Bell and Griffin are about the only two we still have left that are capable of putting up some numbers. Maybe not 1,000 yards.

Overall I'll still see a better performance from the offensive side especially if Plummer keeps the ball on the ground. I get very nervous everytime he passes the ball even if it's to capable hands like Rod Smith or Darius Watts.

I will be watching closely to Bradlee Van Pelt. I've said it several times in the past, this guy deserves 1st string. At least Shanny is realizing he needs more respect and put him at 2nd string. He should be getting a lot of playing time tonight @ Houston and the rest of the preseason. Van Pelt tore it up at Colorado State and once he gets relaxed and settled in, I can't see why he can't to the same thing for the Broncos.

Looking at the schedule this season, it's looking like 7-9 at best because of the lack of defense and Plummer, based on last season's performances, still not remembering the correct color jersey to throw to.

Indianapolis Colts: The offense is remarkable, but the best linebacker in town is Ron Artest.

Gotta disagree with this. Appearently the writer doesn't recall that Ron Artest, in MLB Rob Morris-like fashion, also hit the wrong guy.

The Colts D will be better this year. Not by leaps and bounds, but better. And that will come from the tackling ability of the DBs. Up to this point, if any RB made it through the front 7, they were taking it to the house. The DBs couldn't tackle a one-legged midget. But FS Mike Doss, once he come back from his gun firing suspension, will be in his third year in the Dungy system. SS Bob Sanders will be in his second and he showed in his 6 games last year that he can be a big-time hitter. First-rounder Marlin Jackson has already shown in pre-season that he's the real deal as a hitter. Their problems still reside in that they believe that the D-line has only one job, get sacks. And the LBs are still among the worst in the league. So running the ball on the Colts will still be pretty easy.

Unlike raiduh fan the last few years, I will stand up and say that this team is too old, and the window has closed.

The Chiefs are having to cut practice time, or scrub the practices entirely, after only one pre-season game.

Shields can not seem too decide if he really wants too play, and right tackle is up for grabs. Combine that with the lack of chemistry on Def .... I just do not see this team winning it all.

I believe Dave is not far from the truth. What sticks in my mind was last season's finale in San Diego. The Chiefs who were out of the playoff race came into San Diego and rolled over to the Chargers 2nd and 3rd string players, who were playing so SD could rest the starters. On the surface a bad game last season shouldn't indicate much, but what it does show is the Chiefs are an older team who don't play with a lot heart when the chips are down. Couple that with Dickey Weeps last season and I could see the Chiefs mail it in if the ball bounces the wrong way for them a few times this season.

Dave's pretty much on target.

Too much age on offense, not enough explosiveness and speed, and the o-line is in decline.
Quite easy to predict that injuries will become a nagging problem.

Too many things need to come together for the defense to be solid.

I'd frankly not have a lot of faith in Dickless to keep the ship afloat either if I was you guys.

Remember all the bitching last season about some of Dickless' moves, and how his best coaching years were in the rearview mirror...?

I see KC as being competetive in the West, perhaps finishing 2nd.

A possible playoff team, but doubtful to win anything in post-season......if they should get there.
