I carded my first eagle on a par 4 today! Dropped a 145 yard 8 iron onto the green and the ball took one hop and jumped into the hole.
I think I'm in heaven.
War me.
:D :D :D

If it's anything like the 3 eagles on a par 4 that I've hit over the years, I'll bet you that the swing you hit it with felt absolutely perfect too.

Just had to get the '3 eagles on a par 4 that I've hit' in there, eh?

It was the purest 8 iron I have ever hit in my life. In fact, it was so pure that I was initialy afraid that I might have blown the ball over the green as my experience hitting the ball cleanly is rather limited.

I'd have laid off a wedge from that distance. :P
In any case, congrats. I know the feeling of hitting that perfect shot. I hit a 3 iron from 225 into a breeze over water the whole way to get home in two in Hilton Head this week. Left the 8 foot putt hanging on the lip for eagle. :x

Yeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh buddy.
145 with an 8 iron....that you roped? Does your husband golf, too? Sounds like PW to me.
So, the eagle got you down to +12......on the front?

Actualy the eagle got me down to +6.
For the 9. I was playing after work.
The good news was that I played the remaining two holes at +2.
These days I'll take some bogey golf.
BTW: I think I've golfed with you before. You're the guy who always tries to make up for underclubbing himself by swinging REALLY fast.

No, that was my brother. He has a lot more restraint than I do.
BTW, if I take a 3/4 swing, it still goes about 135, or thereabouts. I swing really fast because I'm chiselled, athletic, trim, fit, and fluid......and not very smart.

Yup. Two of those 3 eagles happened in the same year, 24 years ago. One happened in the past five years.
See, if there's one thing most of us here can agree on, it's that we don't hit all that many memorable shots but for the handful that we do hit, they stick out in our minds.
Like the single hole in one that I've hit in the 30 years that I've been playing golf.
145 yard 8 iron... sounds about right into a breeze. I'll hit anywhere from an easy 7 to a full 9 iron from 150 out depending on the lie, wind and if it's an uphill approach.

Which keeps you coming back for more of the damn stupid game, and renews the cycle of the course taking your money. It's a plot involving the golf gods -- notice when you're having a truly crappy day, that you always manage to do something spectacular on the last hole, so you get in the car thinking you're a "somebody," even though you just vomited up a 105?
It's a vast conspiracy, I tell you. And I fall for it every time.

I have eagled a par 4 twice but I don't think that I have ever eagled a par 5. :?
Been on in two a few times to only two, three or four putt my way out of it.

How in the hell does that work?
Last time I braved the woods and pegged a green, I was pin-high about 20 feet out. First putt --
almost got halfway there. Second -- cut the deficit down again. Three-putt freaking par. Was on the first hole, too, so I had that confidence builer to carry me through the rest of the round. I mean, if I can leave a 20 footer 10 feet short, surely Tiger is trembling in fear.
Last couple of times I eaged a 5, it was from chipins. For some reason, me and eagle putts just don't get along, on those rare occasions our paths cross. At least my last one (last weekend) resulted in a tap-in bird, which averted a suicidal rage.
You guys know what's up -- if your long game is on, the putter takes the day off. If your putter is on fire, it takes 2 extra shots to get to the green, and you finish the round with zero fairways hit. Why do we do this to ourselves? I guess it's the love of the game, baby.

Exactly! I don't think that I have ever had all facets of the game "working" at the same time.

first time i broke 80 i holed a six iron on the 3rd hole for E. -2 after 3. i was 15 and was gripping like fucking crazy the rest of the round.
needless to say i'd choked on the number 8-0 a few times already and the last 4 holes at our club were tough. real tough.
way to go BSmack.
