Moss: I use marijuana 'every blue moon'

NEW YORK (AP) - Oakland Raiders receiver Randy Moss admits he has used marijuana since entering the NFL seven years ago and still smokes it "every blue moon."

"I have used, you know, marijuana ... since I've been in the league," Moss said in an interview for HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" scheduled to air Tuesday night. "But as far as abusing it and, you know, letting it take control over me, I don't do that, no."

When pressed whether he still smokes marijuana, the star receiver with the checkered past said: "I might. I might have fun. And, you know, hopefully ... I won't get into any trouble by the NFL by saying that, you know. I have had fun throughout my years and, you know, predominantly in the offseason.

"But, you know, I don't want any kids, you know, watching this taking a lesson from me as far as 'Well, Randy Moss used it so I'm going to use it.' I don't want that to get across. Like I say ... I have used (marijuana) in the past. And every blue moon or every once in a while I might."

The NFL's drug policy calls for up to 10 tests a month after one positive result. A second violation results in a fine equal to the player's salary for four games, a third in a four-game suspension, and a year's suspension for a fourth violation.

Moss has never been suspended for violating the league's drug policy and NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said it is confidential whether the receiver is in the drug program or not.

"We evaluate all conduct related to substance abuse and it is handled confidentially by the doctors," Aiello said.

Moss was traded from the Minnesota Vikings in early March. He was limited by a hamstring injury last season and finished with 49 catches for 767 yards and 13 touchdowns. It was the first time in his seven seasons that he didn't reach 1,000 yards receiving.

Moss has had problems on and off the field throughout his college and pro career. He lost scholarships at Notre Dame and Florida State because of a battery charge and marijuana use. He set records at Marshall and clearly was the most dynamic receiver in the 1998 draft, but lasted until 21st overall because of his past trouble.

Last year, Moss was fined $10,000 for pretending to pull down his pants and moon the Green Bay crowd during Minnesota's playoff win. He also drew criticism for leaving the field with 2 seconds left in a regular-season loss against Washington.

Other transgressions include bumping a traffic control officer with his car in 2002, verbally abusing corporate sponsors on a team bus in 2001 and squirting an official with a water bottle in 1999.

See Randy RUN.
See Randy JUMP.
See Randy CATCH ball in the end zone.

How will the league handle this? He admits to occasional use of a BANNED substance. Seems to me a little or a lot makes no difference in the eyes of that Tagliabooboo. Regardless why admit it for no particular reason? Some things are better left unsaid.

From Fanball.com
Apparently, Randy was tired of seeing Terrell Owens' name in the headlines. While we appreciate the fact that Moss was blunt regarding his recreational habits, he may take a hit from the NFL's substance abuse policy. Of course, Randy would probably argue that it's not called the substance "use" policy. Moss has never been suspended as part of the NFL's program, but a Vikings' team source told Fanball that he'd be shocked if the receiver wasn't already under surveillance. According to the AP, Moss wouldn't miss time in any sort of substance-abuse suspension unless he's proven to be in violation of the policy on three occasions. Moss is sure to hear from the NFL, and we'll update you with the fallout.

Exactly, Joe.

If Moss was watched closely as a Vike, he is/will be watched TWICE as closely as a Raiduh.

Exactly.

I said he was fucking stupid-not a shitty player.

I'll take these fucking headaches anytime just to witness the payday this motherfucker is going to throw down on your shit defense-hell, on ALL the fucking defenses he plays against.

He is the most dominant reciever to play the game since Rice in his prime-Moss single handedly changes an entire defense by simply stepping on the field.

Either way, our opponents are flat out FUCKED this season. I'd just like to see this guy shut his fucking mouth along the way.

KC you stole a gem of a receiver with a really funny personality.
KC will be on NFL network now all season long. Hopefully winning.
Freddie Mitchell and D mac hated each other and Freddy didnt get the ball as much. Remeber as a kid if the you didnt like a guy no matter how good you wouldnt throw him a pass if he was streaking down the field with nobody within 50 yds.
KC Paul you got a great Player in "The Peoples Champion" have fun with it in probably Dick V's last year. Peace Patriots Rule!

This guy was probably Moss' Dealer

The side of the ship at Winter Park read, "Moss is boss" and also was sprayed with the number 81, said Chad Christians, operations manager for Christians Inc., which did carpentry work on the ship two weeks ago.

"We were out there for a week straight in 90-degree temperatures, and for somebody to do that is frustrating," he said. "Of course, Randy Moss' number was 84, so I don't know if these were the most intelligent people."
