Ozzfest

Anyone been this year? I've got it dialed in for this coming Saturday. Maiden will be skipping this show. It's going to be around 95 degrees and 1000% humidity, so there is some dissention in the ranks as to go for the entire day and spend $600 on bottled water, or arrive casually sometime mid-day. Anyone got any insight?

Are you a stoner?

I once new this head named Billy. His blue jean jacket always smelled like ashtray in Social Studies. Billy had a Twisted Sister patch on his jean jacket and this made him a rebel.

I'm sorry, I should have asked if Prime had seen the DepecheFest yet this year, and whether the Flaming lips rawked!

Never wore a denim jacket, but I did occasionally smell like Drakkar and dope/smokes.

You ain't ne'er heard the Flaming Lips, Susie, so why you bitchin'?

Only reason to see OZZFEST would be Iron Maiden. New Rock sucks more than modern country.

The broken record keeps skipping.

Do you have any idea how badly you KYOA every time you dis an entire genre? It truly does make you look like an know-nothing, wannabe elitist.

Hate to be the one to break it to you, but there's talented people in every genre.

Do I get where you're coming from? Sure. Country pop, indie, and hiphop generally tend to attract the most talentless of the "I wannabe a star" set, to be sure. But I certainly don't dismiss their work just because of the genre it's listed as. I dismiss it because it sucks.

Sure, you can count on your fingers the number of musicians with any talent whatsoever in modern country, but they still number approximately double of the number in hiphop...sure. But you dismiss them simply based on which section of the store they're in. This makes you a musical tard.

Black Label Society is another. Zakk Wylde is a monster.

And BLACK MOTHER FUCKING SABBATH!

I was hoping somebody had seen some of the lesser know bands. I've seen most of their names in Guitar magazine, but never checked them out. Bands like Killswitch engage and mastadon.

I'll probably go and melt myself in the sun to check them out.

HH -- if you like having your face ripped off, As I Lay Dying and Mudvayne will do just that.

You can also rack me for being a great dad.

I'm taking my daughter and her friend. No way I let her miss seing the Ozzman live. I've rolled her out to a few concerts (including Vai), so I think she's ready to see the big stadium freakshow. Should be good fun.

I'll take you word on Mudvayne and as I lay dying.

I need to pawn some of the wifes Jewelry so I have enough cash for a day of beer and water for 4.

Yeah I am looking forward to Mudvayne, I've heard them enough to start to like the sound.

Zakk Wylde fucking shreds, but the vocals can be muted anytime now.

The last Ozzfest I attended was okay. Black Sabbath's performance and a lot of beer made it great.

HH, if I make it there, pass it this way.

And Uncle Ozzy did host quite the freakshows back in the 80's. As a youngster, I probably didn't need to see fat 50-somethings in 80's style spandex with their soon-to-be fat daughters in tow, but I survived.

I dig 'em. Also down with MV, Kill Switch Engage (Last Serenade fucking pwns!) and Soilwork. My ear drums branch out.

Sell your house so you can afford a light lunch along with those $10 waters and $15 talls.

BTW, Prime -- how is it that I haven't read a review of the TMV show?

I don't see a U&L date on the schedule, and I doubt I missed a listing, which disturbs me. But I figured you of all people would have caught the Houtston show.

When all is said and done, if freaking Pensacola and Fresno get TMV shows, and Portland/Seattle/George/Bend don't I will be most pissed. If I'm not mistaken, Frances The Mute hit #1 on the local charts, so I don't think it's for lack of interest.

An aside -- it was pretty darn warm yesterday (but certainly not out of control), but I think it got into the 40's last night. I slept right next to an open window. Most sweet.

Ok... UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!!

Fucking awesome show, but I have to preface the review with some very strange prefunctioning.

The OL has Acid reflux, and takes Protonix for it. I had been drinking Friday night like the fucking stud that I am, and wanted a clean slate for Saturdays show, so I pop a protonix on the way out the door. We hit Wendys for a burger, and my stomach is feeling mighty fucking funny. Could have sworn I took a protonix to solve that. Anyways, off to the show. about 20 minutes later, as we're getting closer to the concert, I start feeling fucked up, and having trouble driving. WTF? I pull over and let the OL take over while I start sweating like Cinder at the free clinic as the doctor thumbs through her chart! If anyone has ever taken Xtasy, they know about how I'm feeling. I start thinking that maybe I took the wrong pill. Turns out I took ButorPhenol that we had for a dog we put down three years ago. It's hard core canine pain medication, and is a controled substance. It's a mother fucking opiate. Canine fucking Opium!!! What better way to see Sabbath, right? After showing up, and looking around, I'm pretty fucking sure I'm not the only one on their dead dog's drugs! What a wonderful fucking freakshow. Hookers, Sluts, Biker bitches, Jail Bait in Bikinis, fat ugly bitches who should be shot for not wrapping up in a shower curtain before leaving the house, Meth Heads, Motor freaks, metal heads, burnouts, and me and the family. All this, and no one has taken the stage!

Rob Zombie fucking shred! Love that fucking guy, he closed out the second stage. He should have been much higher on the billing.

Mudvayne was cool. BLS shred. Killswitch Engage was sort of pedestrian Metal, but good to check out.

Velvet Revolver was out of the element. One album is not enough to open directly for Sabbath. They were deece, but Zombie would have had the crowd frenzied better.

Now on to the godfather himself...

It was like 105 fucking degrees with no shade all day long. Sabbath hits the stage just after dark, and the cool winds blow in. They're kicking ass and taking names when the rain hits.

You don't know what awesome is until you stand there watching Sabbath, Air raids sirens going off for War Pigs, lightning in the sky, getting pissed down on, while on Dog smack! Goosebumps, Jerry, Goosebumps!

Had a great time, the kiddo loved it! Got her out to see the Ozzman before he calls it quits. Showed her how funny daddy is on dog opium, and lived to tell about it!

Ruff Me, I'm out!

Second. Great sport. Recently emptied a bud's mystery stash while I was housesitting. Might have been vicodin, not sure. I know we ate a bunch of them when we were hammered(on homeowner's booze, of course).

Well done, Hoontah. Although, I've done much opium and much "Xtasy"(no, I can't score any, officer), which most non-do-drugs-while-driving-my-family-around types refer to as "E" for about the last 10-15 years, and the two are absolutely nothing alike.

That said, I needs to gets me some doggie opium.

So what did you think of Mastodon? I can't really figure out what to make of them myself. I feel like I should like them, but they just don't do it for me, for whatever reason. I have both of their albums and I've listened to each maybe 4 or 5 times. They're just a band I kind of feel obligated to support (if that makes any sense) since they aren't churning out the typical nĂ¼-metal schlock that's so prevalent these days.

I think they're just a little too "groove-less" for me, when it comes down to it. Their music seems overtly composed, as oposed to more "organic" stuff like Clutch, or even heavier shit like Superjoint & PxDx.

We didn't make it in time for Mastadon. They were on somewhere around 10:30. Which was right before we got there. They were one of the bands that I did want to catch!

Dins, last time I did X or "e" as you crazy kids are calling it, it was actually MDMA, and not stomped on with a bunch of caffeine and ephedrine. The early stages of what I felt were very X like. The long term effect, not so much. I didn't tell every person I met I loved them. Never grinded my teeth, and sure as shit didn't have the urge to listen to Erasure!

I'm sure Dog Smack has less halicinogenic qualities as good old fashioned opium, but it was a pretty cool buzz either way. especially for a 34 year old dude who had no intentions of going back to the drug using days of my youth.

No, officer, I don't know where to get any "X". No, Dad...I've never done any "X".

If you're 34, you must have been hitting the E at about age 6. Or....Texans are socially behind. "E" is pretty mid-90's, actually. They're just "pills" these days. Fuck, I shouldn't know these things.

BTW -- NEVER buy any pills from a rasta in an after hours club if he has bones through his earlobes. Especially if you have an important social function the next day that requires coherence. Not even when you're really really reeeeeeaallllllllly drunk. Not even when you think there's a piece of extremely fine young ass in it for you. Bad bad bad idea. Might not be what you think it is, and it might last for about 16 hours. Bad bad bad. The prevailing theory is that it might in fact be AMT, which is badbadbad kitty.

Or so I've heard.

Ah, the glory days of youth. OK, I was in my 30's at the time. But I'm youthful, dammit.

No no no. That's all wrong. It's "10001110101."

How can you not respect a band that has a song title & chorus in binary code?

Well, actually, it would be pretty stupid if that song didn't rock so fucking hard. The last two Clutch discs have been so badass that I've almost completely blocked out Pure Rock Fury.

X was mid- 80's. Gave that shit up, along with a whole host of other drugs when I left high School.

Well actually, I left them in the maternity ward when I went Rootbeer and had a kid at 19.

I know things I shouldn't. But they're all dated!
