Stevens was involved in some of the most ferocious hits in recent memory. He's one of the best defensive defenseman of his era. With 3 Stanley Cups, he's a no-brainer for the Hall of Fame. Good to see him leave rather than risk further injury. Damphousse finishes with over 1,200 points...that should be able to get him into the Hall but probably not right away. Stevens should be in on the first ballot.

Your HOF class of 2007 is going to be Messier and Stevens.

Unless Messier gets his way and finds a team to sign with. There are rumours going around that he's going to sign with the Oilers just before camp begins.
For the Oilers sake, hopefully it's one of those ridiculous sign-for-a-day-then-retire things.

Not sure how much Mess can offer at 44, might be better off working his way up the coaching ladder.

Eric Lindros just had a sigh of relief.

Blues give up Stevens for picking up Shanny.
Worst.
Ruling.
Ever.

Blues screwed up their compensation offer for Stevens, it was a fair trade IMO. They had to cough up 7 first round picks (5 for signing Stevens in 1990, 2 for tampering with him when he was a Devil)
Blame Blues management for being so damn stupid.

Now MacInnis is retiring. Weight took over the top of the power play and it was, dare I say, inept last year.
Weeping Blues fan.

Damphousse shouldn't go into the hall IMO.

Brendan Shanahan has 1151 points...he's headed for the Hall, correct? Why not Damphousse?

Who would you rather have on your team? Just because Damphousse has more career points than Shanny, does that make him a better player? Damphousse was a good player, but to get in the HOF you should be a great player.

so I was cruising by, and I saw someone had said that Damphousse doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame.
I thought, "who's the idiot that says Damphousse doesn't belong in the HOF?!?!" I was just about done banging out my knee-jerk reaction when it dawned on me......" Hey al? Just because Hap suffers from terminal idiocy, doesn't mean he's always wrong."
So after careful consideration, about the player that Vinny Damphousse is (was), and some of the numbers he's put up, I couldn't think of a reason not to include him in the Hall. But then again, I can't think of a reason in favor either.
Definately not first ballot. If there's a slow year in 10 or 15 years, sure, why not? Is Bernie Federko in the Hall? If he's in, surely Vince can squeeze in.

Damphousse has 1 himself... not shabby.
I couldn't care less if either of them get in the Hall though. Neither one of them really thrilled me as a fan. That's just me, though.

You're just hating on Shanny 'cause he's a Wing.
He's the second best power forward of his generation, behind Cam Neely.

Damphousse going into the hall or not going into the hall is basically the same arguments people are discussing with Raphael Palmero (before the 'roids stuff came up). Both players have great numbers and are talented players, but IMO for a player to get into any HOF they should be such a great player that there is no doubt whatsoever. Shanny is one of those players.
A question I ask myself is, if I was building a team would I take that player without question in to play his position. Even in his prime, there were still at least five to 10 better players I would have taken ahead of Damphousse.
The fact that the board's resident bandwagon jumping, drooling tard ratpack_incognito agrees with me, must mean I am wrong.

You calling anybody a tard is like mvscal calling somebody a racist.
Hopefully you get enough enjoyment out of calling me a bandwagoner this season to ease the pain from watching the Leafs freefall from 8th to God knows where in the east.
I'm here for ya, Casey.

Not really, considering I wasn't hating on him. He just never really excited me too much. The Wings were my 2nd favourite team growing up, actually.

Maybe, but Cam Neely was a guy that got my attention when I watched him play.

If the drool cup fits, then wear it you bandwagon jumper. The best thing about lockout is it gave everyone a rest from pointing out how painfully stupid all of your hockey takes are. Everyone here needed the rest.

For the most part I can agree with that statement except Shanny's play for Team Canada in the last Olympics raised my opinion of him.
