He was my favourite player growing up. Hard to believe I would be this old when he finally hung 'em up.
Nobody could run a pp like Chopper. Absolutely nobody. Him and Suter together in the 80's were lethal.
I'd just love to see what he would do with that shot of his next... bank it off the backboards to have Joey Mullen scoop it in, or fire it straight on the 'tender and let Loob pick up the rebound, bounce it in off Joel Otto's ass, or fire it directly at Joe Nieuwendyk's stick for a beauty deflection.
In the beginning he wasn't solid in his own end, but nearing the end of the 80's, he was probably as solid in his own end as any of the Flames' dmen. The man just kept evolving his game.... even with the Blues he continued to improve.
1 Norris Trophy, should have been 2, he was robbed in '91 or whatever year it was he got 103 points. Ray Bourque was the media darling back then... Big Al didn't get the respect he deserved until he went to St. Louis.
1 Conn Smythe Trophy... MacInnis was a machine in 1989. That was the only time I ever saw Patrick Roy overmatched. Every time MacInnis wound up for a shot in those Finals, you could see Roy wince before the puck even got there. MacInnis scored some big goals in that series.
Only 1 Stanley Cup. I guess that's what happens when you play for the Blues for so long.
