How bad are things at OU right now...

Found this little tidbit on orangeblood.com so take it with a grain of salt.
apparently Paul Thompson and Chuck Long got into a yelling match over playing time. He then removed his blue jersey and went and set on the sidelines. It appears Paul thought he should have saw the field against Tulsa just as Bomer did against TCU. I am hearing Bomer was promised the job more or less during the recruiting process and Thompson is just now seeing the whole picture...
Adrian Peterson suspended

but only for two days of practice for missing classes.
Peterson misses classes, won't practice Tuesday
By George Schroeder
The Oklahoman
NORMAN - Oklahoma tailback Adrian Peterson did not practice Monday and will not practice today while serving a penalty for missing classes.
OU coach Bob Stoops said Peterson would play Saturday at UCLA.
But Peterson, a sophomore, has run afoul of the OU athletic department’s class attendance policy, which was instituted this fall. Further absences could result in penalties, including suspensions from games.
According to Kenny Mossman, OU’s associate athletic director for communications, if a student misses more than three classes in one subject, an escalating penalty phase kicks in. After an unspecified number of absences, the student is not allowed to practice. At some further point in the escalation, absences would result in suspension from competition.
Peterson has not reached that point. Though it was uncertain Monday night whether he would start against UCLA, Stoops said in a statement issued by OU he would play.
“We anticipate that he will play in this week’s game and that this matter will be behind us after Tuesday’s practice,” Stoops said in the statement.
OU officials aren’t sure how many other schools have such a policy, which is designed to encourage class attendance.
Peterson, the Heisman runner-up as a freshman last season, rushed for 220 yards and propelled OU to a hard-fought 31-15 victory over Tulsa last Saturday.

I would have no trouble believing Thompson feels he is getting shafted. Both guys sucked against TCU and Bhomar was doing jack against freaking Tulsa. Thompson should have gotten a shot. But I don't see Stoops as the type to guarantee a starting job during recruiting, that is just begging to create a Simms/Applewhite deal and/or create division within your team when they see meritocracy being thrown out the window. Stoops is smarter than that, plus I'd say he is in position not to have to make those kinds of promises to get players

Well, I am in the process of finishing my education at OU and when I am done I will be competing with the grads from the higher ranked business college that come out of UT.
So be it.
I am not scared of the competition , I am confident in my professors as well as the program and I know with hard work there is no reason that I cannot succeed against people are more hyped than me.
Just like Adrian Peterson, I miss a class now and then and there are consequences or repercussions.
Note to AB: Every student misses classes
How long is it now that we have been hearing about Texas beating OU and their Heisman trophy candidate QB? The answer is about as long as this group of posters has been together.
Don't get me wrong, I know OU has problems, big problems, but I have not lost confidence in Bob Stoops or the program and just because a team is "better" than you does not mean you cannot win.
Any true college football fan knows that for the most part things go in cycles, especially the current state of CFB where fans demand wins early and often and the coaches come and go usually within 5 years.
I have been watching OU football for over 20 years now, during that time I have seen a lot of changes but one thing remains the same...
TEXAS SUCKS!
I know we/OU is probably going to lose but there is no way you can stop what I am made of, a Sooner fan that will cheer his ass off for Oklahoma to beat Tejas.
BOOMER! SOONER!

What does suspending AD from practice accomplish? Thats like someone missing work and getting a raise for it. How does that work anyway
Stoops: Adrian, I see here in my report you have been skipping your Industrial Arts class
AD: Yea, I've been trying to heal from all the non-blocking my Oline has been doing.
Stoops: Well we can't have that so I'm suspending you from practice. I want you to go and sit in the hot tub in the training room with the Cheerleaders, and think about your mistakes, while they blow you.
AD: Yes Sir!

OUMO: Adrian!

OUMO: I did it!
AD: Did what?
OUMO: I graduated!
AD: What are you 30 years old?
OUMO: Yo Since I'm a grad would you like a ride in my Camero?
AD: Bitch can't you see my ride is an H2, why the hell would i ride in your POS.
OUMO: cause I can kick those cheerleaders asses and give you a suck like a hoover.
AD: Damn, I ain't missing another class again, I can't handle these retards in the training room.

I don't know if Benson has or hasn't especially since he has never been charged with smoking Pot.

True, but ND had a very strict policy on that when I was there.
At ND, more than three unexcused absences meant that you failed the class. Period. And there were only three categories of excused absences: (1) away from campus on official university business; (2) necessary trip home (e.g., death in the family); and (3)
documented illness. The last one meant that if you were sick, you had to go to the campus Infirmary. Staying in your dorm room and claiming you were sick, even if you really were, didn't cut it.
One professor I had (freshman year Theology course) had a policy that
one unexcused absence meant failure of his class. Technically, I suppose one could have challenged that on the grounds that it violated university policy, which gave you three, but I wasn't about to be the test case for that. I never missed his class.

As did RICE both for athletes and non-athletes. Now that being said it was pretty easy to know who was and who wasn't in my classes when most of them had 20 or so people in them. AP at OU could easily be in lecture classes with 300+. Not as easy to take attendance.
That being said, I have to agree that missing two practices is not a punishment at all. That is like getting in trouble as a kid and my mom sending me to my room where I had a TV, Nintendo, Computer, and a phone. If she wanted to punish me she should have sent me to her room where there wasn't jack shit to do. Same for OU. They are holding a guy out of the two worst practices of the week, IE they sent him to his room.
Now props to OU for stressing class attendance, but don't make the punishment part a joke. Sending AP to extra study hall, or making him write a 10+ page paper on why class attendance is important is better than giving him days off from practice which is what any player would want. In fact if this is actually part of the punishment phase then it could encourage more players to skip a few classes just to get a free pass out of practice. Here's hoping that isn't the only punishment, rather just the reported part.

Boy nothing gets by Frisco. I was going for it all, like getting fouled after knocking down a 3 pointer. Or blocking 2 menn on a touchdown run. Or even better, having a life time handicap parking tag.

So any predictions on how the Sooners finish the season? I'm sure they'll regroup, but trust me in that every team is seeing the Sooners troubles and thinking that they can pounce and take advantage.
I predict they'll be 2-3 after the OU/Texas game. Sorry OU fan.
Oh and I love the defending of AD missing practice because every student misses class from time to time. I certainly did on my way to my third-tier UNL degree (although alum Warren Buffet didn't seem held back by it). I also worked two jobs AND was in the National Guard to pay for school.

I missed 1 class in my entire college career. The reason? 90% of what you get tested on is covered in class. I went to class, paid attention, studied very little, drank a lot, and still ended up with a 3.75.
Not every student skips classes. And just because many do, that doesn't excuse it. The kid is getting a full ride. He SHOULD be required to go to class.
My thoughts are that he should not only have to practice, but he should practice on the 4th squad or something like that. Then, after practice, run the shit out of him.
Of course, that's not in the best interest of the team come Saturday...

That wasn't Benson that was Larry Dibbles, get your facts straight. Benson is the guy who was in Midland visiting friends and the cops raided a party he was at, did an illegal search of the apartment and found a bag of weed in in a coat closet. They then arrested and charged Benson for it cause he was in the apartment, the owner of the coat came forth and the charges were dropped
And he was pissed tested at the time of arrest, and that test came back negative for any controlled substance.

Just so we're on the same page, the ND policy I referred to applied to all students, not just athletes. That being said, how strenuously each professor wanted to enforce that policy was up to him/her.
At ND, I had classes with fewer than 20 students, as well as classes with a few hundred students. In the smaller classes, of course, it was pretty easy to figure out who was and was not in class. One professor I had used to have unannounced pop quizzes periodically, so of course, he could tell who was in class on those days. In some of the larger classes, professors would have a class roster, and you would be responsible for signing in next to your name. But some other professors gaffed the whole thing off entirely.

And no, drunk as fuck will not happen much at all anymore. Not for awhile at least. The beer will flow like wine occasionally, but for the most part, things will slow down (not slower than RIGHT NOW though for damn sure!) Pool table will definitely be open though.
