but then, Fresno State beat Hawaii 70-14 at the end of last season. That was the 8-5 Timmy Chang, mediocre, Hawaii....This year's Hawaii is an underdog this weekend going to Idaho.

And Arkansas lost at home to Vanderbilt.

I wouldn't start sucking each other's dicks quite yet, if I were USC. As much as they dominated teams last year, at home, they weren't nearly as dominant on the road in the Pac-10.

Out of their 4 road games, 3 of the teams they played were .500 or worse. Only OSU was over .500, and just barely (7-5). Yet, 3 of the games were decided by a touchdown or less. Not to mention, Stanford and UCLA are probably the 2 least hostile road environments they could play in.

Oregon should be over .500 this year and it will be the most hostile stadium they've played in since at Cal in '03.

I'll sure take anyone's bet that wants to lay down 21 points..

Stanford jumped all over USC last year, the Trojans were up 10-0 and relaxed. The Cardinal relied on trick plays and some horrible missed tackles on a run just before halftime to take a 28-17 lead. carroll got his teams attention at half time and the trojans didnt allow a first down the entire second half, the score was close only because USC took a knee on the last few plays after having first and goal.

If the Trojans get upon the Ducks, I dont expect them to let off the gas til they reach 50, Oregon will need USC to turn the ball over often and will need to capitalize on it by scoring TD's after each Trojan turnover. Trojans take care of the ball they should take care of the Ducks

I'll be rooting for anyone to take USC this year. I don't dislike them, I just think their reign has been long enough. Unfortunately, unlike their Pac10 competition they have a good D to go with the high-octane O. But between trips to Eugene, Berkeley, and Tempe hopefully somebody can get it done.

The ducks used to have one of the best home-field advantages in the country, maybe they'll find the old touch this weekend.

Keep in mind, that under Pete Carroll, the Trojans are 1-3 in Pac-10 road openers.

They only win came against a 4-7 team. 2001 Oregon won 11 games, 2002 WSU won 10, 2003 Cal won 8. THis year's Oregon team appears more like an 8+ win team, the type of team Carroll has LOST to in his Pac-10 road openers.

Only a fool would bet against USC. In the past couple of years I've placed 3 or 4 bets against USC covering what has been 30+ point spreads and they always fucking covered. I saw the Arkansas line last week, and thought it was tempting, but my lesson was learned.

the three Trojan losses at the start of conference play were all on carpet and 2 were in OT, the third they just blew it at the end when Palmer threw an incompletion instead of a sack and not running out the clock.
USC has already played a game on carpet this season and have installed a full size carpet practice facility on the inside of the track, which has helped a lot. Last season the Trojans had installed a 40 yard patch of carpet to Jones Field to help the kicking game (all 3 losses could have been atributed to missed fg's/xp's) and when the Trojans had to play on the stuff they didnt seem to be as phased as in seasons before. the greatest shortcoming of USC's practice facility has been space, Jones Field is not that big and didnt allow more than one full size field to practice on, the turf in the center of the track should help the Trojans out greatly this season. But Id still like to see the school buy the land up at Expo Park and levelthose soccer fields and make a new, larger football facility. Plus they would remove that soccer element from the area

One thing about Duck D Coordinator Nick Aliotti: For all of his shortcomings, and there are many, when he has been at Oregon, his defenses have been at their best in those games where they were predicted to get completely blitzed.

Off the top of my head . . .

Against UW and Arizona in 1994.

Against UCLA and UW in 2000.

Against WSU and Colorado in 2001. (Remember how all the Big 12 honks said Colorado would run over Oregon in Fiesta Bowl).

Against Michigan in 2003 (at least for 3 1/2 quarters).

2001 CU team was one dimesnional as hell. Good coordinators can scheme for one dimensional teams and have success. USC is multi dimensional, Leinart calls 3 plays in the huddle then picks which one will work best at the line, the play calling this year is way way more aggressive than it was under Chow, its like the young guys are so worried about filling his shoes they swing for the fence on every down.

For Oregon to have a shot they will need to cause USC turnovers and have no turnovers of their own, and they will need to keep those fans loud the entire game, if SC hits them early and scores 21 points in the first 3 or 4 possessions and the Ducks fans start sitting on their hands, the rout will be on. Noise in that stadium and that noise stopping Leinart from making calls at the line is Oregons best shot at keeping this one close
