GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - The Phoenix Coyotes are going to "un-retire" Hall of Famer Bobby Hull's jersey number so he can present it to his son Brett before the team's home opener against Minnesota on Oct. 8.

The team announced Friday that Brett Hull will wear his father's No. 9 the rest of his career.

Bobby Hull wore No. 9 throughout his career with the Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets. The Jets, who moved to Phoenix in 1996, retired Hull's No. 9 in 1989.

The Coyotes signed Brett Hull as a free agent on Aug. 6, 2004. Brett Hull, an 18-year NHL veteran, is the game's active scoring leader with 741 goals.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the retired number should stay with the city and not the franchise, especially if the franchise changes its name and colours. Hull's number should be retired in Winnepeg, not Pheonix.

Good point...where would you display it if stayed in Winnipeg? It's the same franchise...they keep the old records from the Jets so it's only fair to keep the #9 with them. I think it's cool that Brett will get to do that. There was talk about him doing the same thing in Chicago when a he was free agent before he signed with Dallas. Doesn't matter what number he wears, he'll still put in 20-30 goals this year for the Coyotes...should be a solid second line scoring threat.
