I was up in NJ this weekend calling a game and also happened to catch a High School game. I watched Lawerenceville play Trenton Central. Turns out two of the kids in the game are being heavily recruited by PSU. B Brackett the QB for Lawerence was offered by PSU last year and from what I heard he is a firm commitment. His parents were decked out in PSU gear as was his younger siblings.
That part is good. The bad part is the kid was completely unimpressive. His team was clearly better coached and had better athletes, yet he held them back. He fumbled the snap 6 times. None of them were the center's fault as Brackett was pulling out early. Further when he threw the ball it was soft and often times just lobbed up for grabs. Most of the time his WRs bailed him out by making the catch, since they were better athletes.
I hope the PSU program isn't pinning its future on this kid.

Brackett was PSU's first verbal this year. Apparently they're not done looking. There's a PA kid named Bostick who they are trying hard to get.
I've read some better-sounding observations of Brackett's play, but it's hard to discount this first-hand account. All I can hope for is that the best QB plays as a result of how he looks in practice and in games.
PSU's got a Paterno-derived logjam at QB. Anthony Morelli will probably be a good QB in '06 and '07. There are at least 4 other QBs on the roster that Joe will probably keep in the mix.
Frankly, I wish they'd skip recruiting a QB this year, and use the scholarships elsewhere.

Bostick is a junior and will be one of the top 5 QB's in the country next year. Up there with Jimmy Clausen and Ryan Mallet.PSUFAN wrote:There's a PA kid named Bostick who they are trying hard to get.
My name is Killian, and I have a recruiting problem.

PSU,
I am from the school of thought where you recruit a top QB each year. Not all of them are going to pan out and this way you always have competion at the position.
Could have just been an off week for the Brackett kid, but I have seen much better QB play this season. Here's hoping it was a fluke.

A couple of updates here...
Obviously, Bostic went to Pitt. He showed up really out-of-shape, apparently. He'll have a chance to burn the dough off and be the starter.
Brett Brackett has been moved to WR - at a legit 6'6" 240. Apparently, Joe's really enthusiastic about him, which means he'll be seeing the field. He was thrown a few passes in the spring game...he looked then like he needed some time to develop. I'm glad to hear that he's focused on another position, though.

Totally agree with, PSU. That way Terrelle Pryor's decision to come to tOSU will be that much easier.PSUFAN wrote:Frankly, I wish they'd skip recruiting a QB this year, and use the scholarships elsewhere.

Regarding Pryor, I think he'd be a good fit with PSU. However, I have to admit that OSU might be the better program for him. He'd be able to play for a school that competes for championships in hoops and football, just to name two.
I don't know how much Paterno likes sharing his football players with the basketball team. I think where it happens, it does so in a very curtailed fashion. Joe (probably rightly) wonders whether a kid was taking too much on, with hoops, pigskin, and classes. When kids convince him that they can handle it, he lets them be hoopsters...at least for a portion of the season.
I imagine that TP will get freshmen minutes on both teams at OSU.
Not that I don't want him...but this is the place where we deposit our realistic takes...right, JON?
