Much of this is Federal requirements. The Feds have said that most special needs students should be in main stream classrooms. The thought process is it will make the special needs kids feel normal. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case. Kids will tease and harass other kids who are different regardless of what classroom they spend their day in. Meanwhile teaching has slowed as teachers spend more time with the special needs kids outbursts, tantrums and misbehavior.

Put this in the same failed category as fair fun positive soccer where no score is kept.

The ROP, autoshops, woodshop, metalshop, class options at most schools in Southern California are far and few between. I don't know about other regions of the country. Many kids are struggling and failing in the college curriculum that would otherwise thrive in the hands-on trade environment. Leaving them with jack-shit if they make it out of HS. They try a year or two in community college and say fuck-it and are a couple of years behind if they decide to take up a trade. Bring back the two path system to the school system. As it is know, there are too many kids graduating HS, that if you ask them to "go get the left-handed monkey wrench" they will actually go try to find it.

Yep. And the fact that they’ve convinced everyone that everybody needs to go through a four year academic program and come out unprepared for anything is one of the reasons that all the trades are being filled by immigrants.
