Sometimes the cure is worse than the affliction.

Story time from the Spanish flu. There is a family cemetery near our home, and I remember when I was young I discovered that there were many who died within months of each other, the young, the old, and all those in between.

I asked my grandparents about it, and they explained that the Spanish flu went through the area and killed almost everyone. Evidently at the time, the treatment for it was to try to dry out the body, so patients were instructed to not drink fluids. As it turns out, that was exactly the opposite of what should be done, we now know that you're supposed to drink lots of fluids, but in 1918 that wasn't the case.

As the story goes, my great great great uncle got sick, and like everyone else at the time, thought that he was going to die. So he decided that if he was going to die, then he was going to die happy, and therefore he started drinking large quantities of bourbon. And so he lived.

My grandfather survived the spanish flu by the skin of his teeth. He was 19/20 years old. The casualty rates of this thing are nothing compared to it. For that matter, the swine flu was much worse. And our response to it was lacking. Of course, Obama and Senile Joe weren't blamed. But Trump is gonna shove it up Joe's ass sideways this summer. That is, if Joe's still in, which is a big if.

I still think this thing is going to get stopped dead in its tracks and hopefully things return to normal quicky and we will have learned a few lessons.

Lesson 1- When something like this breaks out, you identify it ASAP and you isolate it, aka, you go full xenophobe and slam the border shut. Thank you President Trump for being way ahead of the curve on that. It is the single difference between us and those oh so non-xenophobic Euros.

Lesson 2- Improve testing infrastructure. Make it a global effort. Have a mobile team ready to roll to any place on the globe/frisbee shaped thingy. Lesson 3- Finish the fukking wall. Border control is a matter of public healf.
