There is no reason to assume the Cartels are idiots. It is highly probable they are expanding their operations beyond drugs and toward other types of organized crime. To do that you put compromised people in legitimate jobs and check in with them every so often so see if they have any opportunities the cartel can leverage. Italians and other groups have been doing it for centuries in this country.

Reagan might have started out with good intentions; he had nearly universal support in the early years but everyone grossly underestimated the way power corrupts. The CIA should be disbanded for what they have done globally. There are some demon motherfuckers in the Agency. The DEA should be hauled in front of Congress for what they have done domestically. Demon motherfuckers there also.

It will never happen because no matter how dark and devious the clandestine acts of these agencies, they furthered this country's hegemonic initiatives.
