the 156th Belmont Stakes, call it!

Belmont Stakes

The last leg of the Triple Crown is this Saturday, but it will be held at Saratoga instead of Belmont Park (due to construction). That means for the first time since 1905, the traditional 1½ mile race will be just 1¼.

Saratoga is the home track for Sierra Leone trainer Chad Brown, and they skipped the Preakness to focus on the Belmont. The horse will be the sentimental favorite for the home crowd. But after jockey Jockey Tyler Gaffalione got fined for making contact with Forever Young in the Derby, Chad Brown will have a new jockey on SierraLeone, Flavien Prat.

I really liked Sierra Leone in the Derby, the horse just has that it factor. Being a descendant of Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew might have something to do with that.

I usually don't like going with the favorites at the track because you don't get good odds, but Sierra Leone is the favorite here and I think deservedly so. Will update on race day, but right now I'm going with:

Sierra Leone
Seize The Grey
Mindframe or Mystic Dan

The T1B Triple Crown standings are:

Seer $14.20
Roux $9.78
Smackie $9.74
Biggie $6.54
HPG $2.80

In other words, if your longshot comes thru for you, you can still win the year, even if you haven't picked a winner in the first two races.

Expert picks, and as usual, they are all over the place.

Look at that horse! He's ready.

Seize The Grey

This is Mindframe's 3rd race, huge step up. I just don't think he's ready for prime time.

During the singing of New York, New York yesterday, the tv camera was on this guy and I thought he looked just like a former coworker of mine. Wait, that has to be him.

So I texted him, sure enough he was at the Belmont. Turns out that he's one of the 2000+ owners of Seize the Grey and was in the winner's circle at the Preakness.

I asked him how he got into it, he said thru My Racehorse. I saw it being advertised but didn't pay attention to it. He owns a share of Seize the Grey for $127, and several others.
Seize the Grey was $127. Anywhere between $60- $225 for bundles with multiple horses at Myracehorse.com. They have some pretty good horseflesh open to investors right now. Won't get rich, but the experience is worth the price. They treat you as an owner, even though over 2000 own a piece of Grey! Read up on the Pedigrees. They give a lot of information. With STG, i couldn't pass up an Arrogate colt trained by D Wayne Lukas. They use a lot of the top trainers on the east and west coasts. Been doing this about 3 years. Its not a lot to buy in, may not make your money back in some cases, but its a blast if you like horses!
Hmmmm. I've spent more money on worse things, why not?
