Joe's voice was very weak and raspy from the start, and in an early question he rambled, lost his train of thought, couldn't remember what he was saying, and just trailed off into... silence.

The important thing is that it's not like he has trouble interpreting truth/reality like his felon opponent. And at 3am I'd rather emergencies be handled by a straight shooter than a smooth-talking conman. Additionally, he appeared today & spoke in a manner that elicited many supporters to say "where was this Joe last night?" So I'll rescind my earlier assessment.
