They're never going back to the Skins and anyone holding their breath for that is a fool.

Re: Weekend Roll Call 7-27-24
Growing up in the Bay Area, I was a fan of both the Niners and the 'duhs growing up. They never played each other so I didn't see a problem with that. Moved to San Diego in '73 but stuck with both teams for a while. The Raiders had some great years in the 70s, 80s and 90s in both Oakland and LA. My AFC sympathies gradually shifted south with the Don Coryell / Dan Fouts Chargers but I remained a big Niners fan all along. I was definitely pulling for the Niners in Super Bowl XXIX. But probably more than any other team, Raider Nation seems to remain Raider Nation. Their LA fan base remained pretty solid when they moved back to Oakland and I imagine that the LA contingent is probably happier with them in Vegas because it's closer and actually could be a long day trip to go to a game. There are even a lot of Raider fans here in LowCal. There's now a high speed rail line planned between the LA area and Vegas, so that will make it even easier.bungle clone wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 1:33 amThanks for sharing. Serious. I wonder how many Raider fans parted ways after the team went to Vegas.

California won't pay for stadiums for billionaires. The only reason why SoFi Stadium got built is because Stan Kroenke paid for it with his own money. I believe the state (or some other jurisdiction) gave him the land and paid for the infrastructure.
Re: Weekend Roll Call 7-27-24
That’s the main reason the Chargers left. Qualcomm Stadium had turned into a dump. The Padres have a top tier ballpark and the Chargers wanted the city to build them a new stadium. Fuck them. SDSU acquired the land that Qualcomm was on and built their own new stadium (Snapdragon) and a bunch of new housing. I haven’t been there yet but it’s supposedly very nice. Just not big enough for the NFL I think.Screw_Michigan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:08 pmCalifornia won't pay for stadiums for billionaires. I used to be able to see The Murph from my place in Del Cerro Hills back in the day when I was living in San Diego.
Sucks San Diego doesn't have the Chargers.

That whole saga is recent, as is the Raiders to Vegas, but this routine goes back decades. Friend of mine was working down there and said if you're in the pub, no-ones watching the football. Baseball and basketball are a different story though.Screw_Michigan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:08 pm California won't pay for stadiums for billionaires. I think that it was about 2/3 City of San Diego and 1/3 Padres. Different animal than a football stadium and nobody wants those dual use facilities anymore. The baseball park is used at least 81 days per year and I think they’ve had over 30 sellouts so far this season. A football stadium gets lots less usage. It was the anchor for a major redevelopment of the Gaslamp District downtown, which has totally turned that area around over the past 20 years as a place for dining and entertainment.
