Rainy start to the day here in FOC.  Gym, pool, then tackling inside honeydo's.  
May buy a new tv today, or wait a week or two.  65 has served honorably. 
New 75's look good, but 85's are intriguing.  Either will likely require a new stand. 
Def going QLED.  OLED is not in my tax bracket.  UHD looks like my 8 year old tv, so .... pass.  

Gotta squeeze in some grill biz at some point.  Having dismissed MIZZOU from my viewing
habits for the rest of the year, I will try and catch some of the Ga vs Ole Miss game, and
Miss State vs Tenn.   I would mention another game I will be following, as they have a 
HUGE game 2 weeks from today against the domers, but I dont want to jinx their perfect 
record.  
8-0 and Chiefs host the donks this weekend.  Possible trap game.  Don't know, nor care
about the spread right now.  Sports betting in Missouri is on the ballot a week from Tuesday,
and if it passes I may start caring then. Just looking for wins at this point for seeding purposes. 
The "undefeated season," chatter has already started to arise here. Not looking for a loss
Sunday, but a loss in December is fine by me.  Get the #1 seed, then rest the guys. 
Chiefs have already played more games than any other team this decade. No reason to make
the 3pete (92 days) that much harder.  Let the old Dolphins sip champagne again this year.

Waking up in Fort Worth this morning, we have a daughter here, and also going to the TCU vs Oklahoma State game tonight. Went to Joe T. Garcia's last night, a legendary Mexican restaurant, and the place where I met my beautiful wife 36 years ago. Large group with us, including some of my old fraternity brothers, so some stories were told that I'd rather have not discussed. We all do stupid shit when we were younger, and I'm really glad that I was in college before the internet and social media.

On Sunday there is an alumni game for TCU lacrosse. Hell no, I am not playing and I'm especially not getting in front of the goal. But it will be nice to see some guys that I haven't seen in a long time.




Yesterday, just as we were getting into the car to drive to the airport, my wife was notified by the airline that our flight was canceled. Not delayed, canceled, as well as the later flights due to bad weather at DFW. So instead of flying we drove. It is time for an epidural and my back already is hurting bad, driving for that long was brutal. I'm happy that I didn't end up at the ER, but physically I would have been happier if I had gone. Right now I'm reduced to walking with a cane.

Hope our friend 88 doesn't mind me sharing this, but he made the crab mornay that I posted last week. He said it was "delicious".and "well received by all" but his wife wished it was thicker.





Here is a similar recipe with crawfish, both of these work well with puff pastries, and both are common holiday recipes in south Louisiana (except I wouldn't drain in 3b). This recipe is from River Road Recipes, an outstanding cookbook for those interested in cajun and creole cooking:



Looking forward to watching Reputation run in her first race on Friday. I've really had fun having micro-share ownership in these racehorses, as they send frequent updates to me showing how they train them.

Louisiana is now having its third Special Session of the year, in addition to the Regular Session. That's keeping me busy at work.

Tonight I'll be at the TCU game, but there is a game in Baton Rouge as well, geaux Frogs and geaux Tigers! While my wife is still sleeping, I need to make my CFB blind guesses picks. Y'all have a good one.

I’m not optimistic about it…the Tide is not playing good ball. Beginning with the second half against Georgia, they ain’t been right. Mizzou game doesn’t count. LSU by 10 at least. Bye bye playoff.

Good games all day. Already got the wife’s vehicle washed and waxed. Doing my truck now. Wife’s gone as she is every Saturday. Gonna chow down on wings and catch the noon games. Ole Miss-Georgia will be good.

It's really not going to affect anything positively in any way. I think it just passed because "everyone else is doing it." Even the major casinos, especially Caeser's Horseshoe in STL, were voting against it. Oh yeah "millions for schools" . They'll be lucky to see a few dimes.

Another rainy day here. But it's nothing like the 8 or so inches we got this past Sunday into Tuesday. Still some serious flooding going on in parts of our metro area.

Will probably head to my usual place to get our annual SUV-load of firewood and maybe get a fire going later this afternoon. Rack traditional wood-burning fireplaces. Even bigger rack when, in two weeks, I get a fire going and the fireplace is all decked out for Christmas because, fuck you, I love Christmas!

It’s fire season in SoCal. Santa Ana winds have been blowing since Wednesday. Not nearly so much here as 10 miles northwest in the hills in Camarillo (Ventura County) where the hot, dry winds were blowing in at more than 60 mph on Wednesday, fanning the Mountain Fire, which so far has burned more than 20,000 acres and destroyed more than 130 buildings, most of them homes.

Here, it’s been a little breezy in the afternoon, but very dry, with daytime temperatures in the high 70s (we’re getting into the low 40s overnight). So it’s still dangerous fire conditions. A vegetation fire sparked yesterday at about 12:30 pm on a 200 acre ranch about there miles NE of here. I went out my front door at about 2:30 pm, and this is what I saw:





It had grown in less than two hours to about 50 acres. At least the wind wasn't blowing toward us, and thank God and gOD for CalFire and the North County Fire Protection District. They were already on it with at least four air tankers, two helicopters, something like 26 engines, 10 water tenders, a dozen hand crews and a couple of dozers. I sat on the porch for a while and watched the tankers flying back and forth:





By 3:30 pm this is what it looked like:





There were some evacuations closer to and downwind from the fire, but I don't think that any structures were destroyed.

It's my Honey's birthday tomorrow, so we're celebrating all weekend. Today was a long lunch of fresh seafood and we stopped off at a kickass local bakery on our way home. We'll watch a movie tonight and I'll stop by Tune Town after that if I haven't passed out into a high calorie coma. Tomorrow after church will be another restaurant of Mama's choice and then some NFL to keep an eye on my 3BB picks. Late night will be the DVR'd NASCAR championship race, too.

Sitting in Business Class on the AMTRAK Surfliner to Union Station in DTLA, a two hour ride from Oceanside. From there we get an Uber up to Grand Avenue and get some lunch. From there it’s a short walk to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to see the LA Opera matinee performance of Romeo and Juliet, a French Opera from the mid 19th century, preceded by a one hour lecture. From there it’s Uber back to Union Station and home by about 8:00 pm. Mrs. Mikey loves Opera and I’ve gotten to where I can enjoy it. It’s also nice to just get out of town for a day with very little driving.

In from the DFW airport, has been a really fun but exhausting trip to Fort Worth.

Seeing a football game at TCU is nothing like what is was back in my day. The stadium is still small, but it has all the modern stuff and then some. Frogs dominated Oklahoma State, I can't remember the final score but it wasn't close. And now the Frogs are bowl eligible!

Haven't looked at other scores, I'm just going to assume the teams that I like won, and the teams that I don't like lost.

My baby girl turned 2 Friday. We’re having her birthday party next week with her best friend who turns 2.

We set out to Fredericksburg, TX for the weekend and stayed with my aunt and uncle. My in-laws pulled the RV in from Albuquerque. We spent the weekend touring the town and visited the Pacific War Museum.

Got to see a fully restored PT boat on display. My grandfather was an officer on one of the mosquitos during the war and saw some action off the coast of New Guinea and Iwo Jima. Really cool stuff.

Friend of mine is a film carp, he worked on one of those JFK Pacific films. They found a working hulk of a PT boat in Carolina and brought it here, as Toronto is identical to Truk Lagoon. Kitted the thing right out, bristling with machine guns and fake torpedo tubes, he took me to see it. The owner loved it and when they were done, he said 'leave it like that' and sailed the bloody thing right out the Ste. Lawrence and down the Atlantic coast. Imagine he turned a fair few heads.

Wonder if you'd need a permit to do something like that
