Weekend Roll Call 11-30-24

Post by kcdave »

Just chillin' a little with JC early this morning.

Winter is officially a FOC topic this morning with
snow starting in a few hours. Maybe a dusting, maybe
2-3 inches. At any rate, grill biz will be handled along
with a few honeydo's and a trip to Sam's.
May try and watch a movie tonight, but we shall see.
My son was over last night and we will occasionally
watch an older flick that he has never seen before.
Caddy Shack, Porky''s, Fast times, etc. We have been
trying for over a year to find Sling Blade, but it is simply
unavailable to stream. Amazon and a couple of others
say they have it, "unavailable in your area." Whatever the
fuck that means. Last night we decided to watch Revenge
of the Nerds. Same thing ... completely unavailable.
I told Vaghub to find them on Ebay and buy the dvd's.
Very frustrating in 2024.

Speaking of frustrating ......

It's getting tougher each week to come in here talking shit about
the Chiefs days to 3peat when they keep making every bottom dweller
they face look like contenders.  While the def looked better early, it
was against the shitty ass raiders, who always fuck themselves in the end,
but the D failed in the 2nd half, giving up 14 points and actually giving
the raiders a hope and a prayer to make it close.
I actually kind of like A.P.  I hope he gets a chance to coach for a decent
team the next time around.  Chiefs offense, is a 4 alarm fire.  The tackles
both suck on the average day, and are actually making each other worse.
Patty M needs another second or two on every play to break souls as he is
accustomed to.  The 3pete is 71 days away, but FUCK!  This team is doing
it's best to give me a heart attack and I wont be around to see it.  I have
seen the raiders shit the bed so many times, but yesterday ... that game was OVER.
raider win, all the way! Until they remember they were the raiders, and raider'd
themselves in the most raider way ever.

Some good college games on today. Lots of channel flipping.
Mizzou vs Ark, Iron Bowl, Tex vs A&M, Farmaggedon.

M.o.W.

Happy Weekend, Y'all.

Flew up to SLC/Provo for BYU/UH football game. My buddy met Johnny Miller’s son (famous golfer/NBC broadcaster) at a golf tournament in Houston earlier this year. Johnny’s son is the director of golf at BYU and he gave us his dad’s tickets for the game. All we had to do was get here.

Met up with some fellow UH fans last night at a bar near Provo. Had a great time talking about the state of the current team and sharing our favorite moments as lifelong Houston Cougar fans.

Going to a game at LaVell Edwards was a bit of a bucket list item for me. Glad I get to cross it off today.

I’ll be playing ball with my grandkids and glancing at Texas-TA&M and Bama-Auburn when I get a chance.

This Bama team has been extremely erratic. So I don’t know what to expect today. Not optimistic. Auburn would like nothing better than to finish off any minuscule hope of the Tide making the CFP. I don’t think they deserve to be in it, but there are so many unimpressive teams in the top 15, Alabama isn’t alone in being fairly mediocre.

Beautiful day here. Low 30s now, mid 50s later.

Woke up in the middle of the night burning up and soaking in sweat, had to change tshirts. Woke up this morning with a coughing fit and brutal headache. Covid sucks. Day 5.

But I didn't realize that the temp had dropped to 35° until I opened the door to let the dogs out. We've been in our new (to us) house about a year and I love it. Things work here, like central air and heat. On the other hand, my old house is freezing now. For sentimental reasons, it was a great house, but otherwise we are in such a better situation now.

...... Fell asleep typing that. Woke up again, drinking Theraflu. Need to go make my CFB guesses. Covid sucks. Y'all have a good one.

I encountered the same problem. Had to buy the DVD from Korea.

We looked at that option yesterday.
Vaghub found a copy today on Ebay.
Should be here by next weekend, but it
will likely be xmas before we watch it.
Picked up a copy of Revenge ... at a
Vintage resale place today also.

The snow, while only accumulating around 2-3
inches in most places of the city was legit.
More wrecks, numb nuts sitting in the ditch facing
the wrong direction, and just blatant dumb fuckery
on the roads than I have seen in about 20 years.

Covid fatigue is a unique experience. Nothing else does what Covid does. After 3 rounds with it kicking my butt for most of a week I tried Ivermectin and a saline inhaler. If I catch the symptoms early, I get past the fever and fatigue in 12-18 hours. It's transformational. You might consider it, even though your TDS is an impediment.

Just got back from Washington state visiting grandkids...they had some friends over and let the old man play QB for some snaps...Some nice shots of leftover eggnog fortified w/Jim Beam vanilla allowed me to risk further damaging the shoulder. Fuck if I didn't show and got to re-live some nice moments spinning it. My cocoon moment is over, back in Az and golf tomorrow.

I QBed for both the boys. In spite of multiple rotator cuff surgeries, I can’t throw overhand. I’ve developed a really nice underhand spiral. I’m at least as accurate as Deshaun Watson.

So let's see.

HPG:
No vaccine (or whatever you want to call it)
Contracted Covid four? five? six times? more?
Kicked his butt for a week the first three times.
Started taking a de-wormer and some kind of inhaler and the past three? four? five? times it only kicked his butt for a couple of days.

Mikey:
Up to date on the vaccines (or whatever you want to call them) for covid and flu. No fatal side effects.
Never contracted Covid, that I know of. Haven't had the flu in memory or even a bad head cold for probably five years.
Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Must be TDS.

Maybe HPG should try a hydroxychloroquine enema and a couple of Chlorox injections next time. He might be able to avoid even that 12 to 18 hour butt kicking the next half dozen times he contracts the China virus.

I wonder if Ivermectin would help with high cholesterol. If so, it might be worth trying.

Made the most of it in 3 days here in SLC. Our BYU connection gave us private tour of athletic facilities and gave field passes for pregame. We made it to Wyoming, Park City, and Twin Falls, ID while we were here. Great time.

Nice shots, Cougs.

Did you go to the spot where the NASA engineer nearly killed Evel Knievel?

We did. The engineer sweared up and down that there was no way that parachute should have deployed. There is a theory that Evel pulled the chute in fear that he was going to die. His family said that was the only time he told them all goodbye before a jump.

Not sure if the theory is true, but does seem plausible.

He was used to riding his bike & trusted the crew to take care of it. The rocket was something he had no experience with & I think that's why he screwed the pooch.

We’ll never know because they couldn’t afford to test the rocket after all the money they spent on trying to make the motorcycle rocket.

It’s crazy that he never got engineers involved in any of his jumps sans the Snake River Canyon jump. Just totally winged it.

My favorite EK story is in 1960 as a 22 year old hockey player for the Butte Bombers, he organized an exhibition game with the Check Republic team. Promoted the heck out of it and sold out the game. He made sure he was tossed during the 3rd period, stole the gate money, and took off. Chech Republc went to collect their share of the gate and nothing was there.

Dude was the biggest prick ever but what a legendary story.
