FDA Approves Novel Non-Opioid Treatment for Moderate to Severe Acute Pain

Exciting news on the pain management front. One can be hopeful, at least:
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Journavx (suzetrigine) 50 milligram oral tablets, a first-in-class non-opioid analgesic, to treat moderate to severe acute pain in adults. Journavx reduces pain by targeting a pain-signaling pathway involving sodium channels in the peripheral nervous system, before pain signals reach the brain. . . .

“Today’s approval is an important public health milestone in acute pain management,” said Jacqueline Corrigan-Curay, J.D., M.D., acting director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “A new non-opioid analgesic therapeutic class for acute pain offers an opportunity to mitigate certain risks associated with using an opioid for pain and provides patients with another treatment option. This action and the agency’s designations to expedite the drug’s development and review underscore FDA’s commitment to approving safe and effective alternatives to opioids for pain management.” . . .

Yeah sure, I'd try that or anything else, really.

I've been taking percocets for over 20 years, not every day but when I need them. They work well, except when they don't, and that is when I'm having nasty acute pain. When it gets to that stage, the only thing that has truly worked is IV dilaudid.

So I don't care what it is, if it works then great, I'm grateful for it. If my pain management doc wants to try this, I'm happy to see if it works.

Dude, how the fuck are you alive? Please don't interpret that I'm rooting for your demise. You are a fucking medical marvel. About the one thing I was hoping to see when I checked into this place was that you are still kicking, and you are.

Yes, I am exceptionally fortunate for many reasons, and definitely including medical reasons.

And honestly it kinda messes with my head sometimes. I remember being told that my pulmonary embolism was "massive" and was the largest they had ever seen where the patient survived. I had diverticulitis that ruptured, which then turned into sepsis. That was brutal. My back went out, and I was partially paralyzed, couldn't move my right leg. Three back surgeries later, I can walk, sometimes with a limp, but I can walk. And many other medical things have happened, I think this was my 23rd surgery.

I don't know why I've been so lucky. It doesn't seem right, it doesn't seem fair. Think of a young child with cancer, a true innocent. Why have I survived and that child did not? What type of God would allow such a thing to happen? I don't have the answers.

I can see how the vagaries of fortune, good and bad, can mess with your head. From what I can tell over the distance of the internet, you've responded by being the best man you can be (even if you are a lawyer-although I've benefited from your experience when you've called me out for talking out my ass-but I digress) father, partner, and that's all you can do. Good luck with your recovery.

My lingering suspicions about this HH1 not being the HHO from .net were not diminished by this post.

HPG - thoughts?

I plugged this post into the AI. The results were not good.

But then I factored in HHO's advancing age and body degredation and the AI says he's got more in common with Zipper Gut now than he did 3 years ago.

More input is needed.

Just curious.

Were you a supporter of try whatever you want back in 2020?

Or were you part of the “you’re not a horse, silly!!!” crowd that actively worked to ban the off label use of substances with 40+ year perfect safety records?
