I think we all agree that MLBers are physical freaks, and in the case of Trevor Bauer, actual freaks. Hey-hooo. If you get a chance, watch Bryan Woo pitch. I bought the Root Sports Streaming package ($20 bucks for a month-I'll see if I watch enough to renew it) just to watch this guy-he is the freak of all freaks. It's an old adage-that if a Major League hitter knows what's coming, they can hit a bullet-this guy throws almost nothing but fastballs, 4 seamer and a 2-seamer and just eats hitters up. He's not Randy Johnson, a guy you're afraid to dig in against either-eerie control. He looks like a 60 coach throwing BP just about to flip it up there, has a very languid motion, then WHAM, 95-96 mph. Injury prone AF, but last year Cal Raleigh got on his ass to take care of himself and he made the first start he's ever made in March/April.

You're right about Woo.

In comparison, a guy like Tristan McKenzie has a big windup and long, whipping arm action that looks fast and is fast. It makes sense to the hitter. Woo's arm slot and delivery is sneaky.

I love Kutter Crawford's release as well. He tucks the ball behind his ear and throws like it's a football.

Eovaldi also has a four seamer that peaks around 94mph.
He threw a 99 pitch shutout against the Reds tonight.

Yeah, no shit. He used them for three innings-threw only one slider in 39 pitches, then Yastremski goes big fly on him. The first hitter up that inning hits a fly ball that when it leaves the bat, I'm thinking out, but the great Julio Rodriguez prances all around the damn thing and it falls and sets up the whole damn inning. Mariners announcers felate Julio on air and off because management gifted him with a huge contract his second year-dude will end up hitting .270, 25-30 homers and they'll treat him like he's already in the Hall. Just a fucking idiot and they've got him for another 7 years. Then Woo uses them the next two innings. I hope all these fucking pitchers go free agent and leave-fuck the Mariners management. This team is human hogshit and the one guy that actually hustles, Robles, is likely done for the season.

What's different about Woo is hitter's reaction to his stuff, the kind of "how the fuck did that get here so quick,"look after a swing that starts after the ball is in the glove. Yesterday, Woo walked the first guy on 4 pitches-very unWoolike, and had the bases loaded, had given up a run and hadn't gotten an out, (I'm anticipating some serious shit from those of you give a shit about baseball) then wham-dominates the rest of the game. 7 innings, the one run and threw 70% fastballs although the beginning of a decent slider showed up. Check him out sometime, it's just different.

Woo is emerging as a Cy Young candidate-in last Friday's 13-1 laugher over the Rangers, Woo dominated over 6 and 1/3 allowing one hit, no runs, struck out 7. He's 4-1, ERA down to 2.69. Check him out if you get a chance.

After an offensive resurgence (really not a resurgence, you'd have to surge in the first place) in mid April/early May, they won 9 straight series, the Mariners returned to form against to Toronto and the Yankmees in a short 6 game homestand going a punchless 1-5 before beating the Padres in the first two games of the series. If the M's hitting prowess is for real, then may that 6 game swoon was just what it was-a swoon. I like the Padres-but over 162 everyone has that stretch where guys throwing a ball 95 plus with wicked ass movement beats you. Hitting is hard, if you succeed 3 out of 10 times you're in the HOF unless you gamble on the sport or have a syringe hanging out your ass. Anyway-should be a great match up.
