You can count on it. With that many ping-pong balls...and the Rangers being the ideal place for the young man. It's so rigged.
There be a derty little bit of cheating going on.

Ideal for who? The fucking waste of skins in the NHL offices in New York... that's who.Captain Haddock wrote:You can count on it. With that many ping-pong balls...and the Rangers being the ideal place for the young man. It's so rigged.

Which would explain why the NHL has insisted that the draft lottery of said ping-pong balls will not be televised.
The NBA lottery is done on live television, the NFL lottery the same way - why should it differ?
The fact that the NHL has said they won't televise it is an absolute joke, and one that would totally discredit the league as a bonafide sports league. If they do that, why don't they start rigging the playoffs and paying off refs?
Perhaps Vince McMahon could be brought in to own a franchise.
Atta boy Gary... nice marketing genius...
What a fucking joke..

Yes, they probably would ruin the kid...... but at least nobody else would have him

That is garbage. I thought it was going to be televised, I am so surprised it isn't. Patrick Ewing, anyone?Otis wrote: Ideal for who? The fucking waste of skins in the NHL offices in New York... that's who.

NFL has no lottery, it's determined by strength of schedule. The team with the weaker schedule gets the better pick. If two teams are tied in both record and strength of schedule, a coin flip decides the order. The NBA lottery is done on live television, the NFL lottery the same way - why should it differ?
A Canadien team will win the lottery.
Also, any news on contraction? Did owners get it in the CBA?
And some wonder why I've always been anti-Bettman...Onrait: Put the NHL lottery on TV

The NHL is back.
Time to build momentum.
Time to win back the hearts of the fans.
No better place to start than this Thursday's Draft Lottery.
The NBA generates great excitement with the televising of their draft lottery. The actual lottery is done behind closed doors but they cleverly "reveal" who got the top pick in a countdown format all the way to Number One, with NBA Deputy Commissioner Russ Granik acting as Alex Trebek for the proceedings.
The NHL has an opportunity to generate some excitement of its own by doing the very same thing. Perhaps no one will care in the good 'ol U.S. of A where NFL training camps and baseball pennant races are about to push the NHL's return even further into the abyss, but in Canada is would provide some much needed positive attention for the league.
Can't wait to tune in Thursday to see it!
Um, what?
You say the NHL is refusing to televise it?
What do you mean the NHL is refusing to televise it?
You mean Gary Bettman is just going to announce it at another carefully worded press conference?
That's the way the NHL is trying to win fans back?
Barring a sudden, last minute change of heart, the NHL will apparently not adopt a carefully executed yet highly entertaining game show format like the NBA draft lottery presentation. The kind of televised event where we have had the opportunity to watch Vince Carter give the "I can't believe I came all the way here to watch us get the eighth pick" face. Doesn't anyone else want the opportunity to see Tie Domi give that same face, only much, much angrier? Doesn't anyone else want to see the look of terror on Gary Bettman's face if Crosby ends up in Buffalo?
Isn't this the new television friendly NHL that we were promised? No matter if your team gets a great pick or not, you are compelled to watch. When you have someone like Sidney Crosby available to the team that picks Number One, a draft lottery is the kind of television that only comes to those who regularly watch Beauty and the Geek. In other words, it's magic.
Instead, the NHL has left itself open to serious criticism and worse; a major backlash if a certain team ends up with the top pick.
In so many ways, with Crosby available and with the New York Rangers one of four teams with the best chance to get him, the entire situation is eerily similar to the one the NBA went through in their very first draft lottery, 20 years ago.
In 1985, the hype surrounding 7-foot Georgetown centre Patrick Ewing was just like the hype surrounding Crosby now. Winning the lottery and having the opportunity to select Ewing was seen as a way to instantly turn a franchise from pretenders to contenders.
The New York Knicks were one of seven teams to miss the playoffs the previous season, and being the team in the largest market in the U.S., they were a team in serious need of a talent infusion. The NBA didn't want one of their marquee franchises to be a difficult sell on national TV.
So you can understand why the sports world reacted with skepticism when, lo and behold, the Knicks ended up with the top pick! Was it pure and simple Kevin Federline-style luck? Or was it something more twisted and devious? Could the NBA have possibly fixed the lottery to ensure that Ewing went to a market where the league could take greatest advantage of his marketing potential?
Only Mr. Stern knows for sure, and he ain't telling.
Which leads us to Thursday's non-televised, behind closed doors NHL Draft Lottery.
At no point am I suggesting that the NHL is planning to actually fix this lottery so that Crosby will end up in New York. Oh sure, from a league standpoint there's no question that would be the best place for him. A league that is a shadow of its former self thanks to the lockout could really use Crosby in a No. 87 Rangers jersey right now.
But by not televising this lottery, if Crosby were to end up with the Rangers it would be forever tainted by skepticism from fans of the NHL's other 29 teams.
If Crosby ends up in Buffalo, or Pittsburgh, or Columbus, any talk of "fixing" the lottery will go by the wayside and it won't be a problem.
But why risk it? The lottery would be great TV and the fans want to see it. Gary Bettman can still do the easiest, smartest and best thing for himself and his rebuilding league.
Allow the lottery to be broadcast.
Is this new NHL fan friendly or not?
Different day.. same old New York bullshit...
Here's an idea... when Gary announces the CBA has been ratified and they now have a new future going forward to be 'sports entertainment' at its best.
Perhaps for Crosby's signing with the Rangers they could have Mario do a run in and start a feud with him...

The NBA draft lottery is the stupidest televised non-event in all of sports. They don't need to televise the NHL lottery.

Really, why?See You Next Wednesday wrote:The NBA draft lottery is the stupidest televised non-event in all of sports. They don't need to televise the NHL lottery.
Because it might actually give them free and good publicity?
Because with the uniqueness of this particular lottery, fans of ALL 30 teams will be glued to their seats anticipating that their team might come away with what has been labelled the next 'Great One'?
Because it might help remove the doubt that Bettman and co, have already fixed the draw.
I can see your point SYNW, that would make absolutely no sense...

Yes the results of the lottery are important. It's just that televising it is a big waste of time.

Toss in Chicago and/or Boston as possible contenders..Hapday wrote:If the any other team but the Rangers, Buffalo, L.A., or Pittsburgh wins I might believe that it wasn't fixed...
You know Jeremy Jacobs and Gary are boys and all.
Bill Wirtz is in need of someone to bring his franchise back, in spite of his best efforts to ruin it.
You seen the results of the mock drafts that Sportsnet held last Friday night and ISS did a couple of weeks back that Bob McKenzie reported on?Hapday wrote:If goes to either Chicago or Boston he will be run out of town as soon as he asks for a raise so he can make minimum wage. That just means the Leafs will be able to pick him up in a couple of years.
If they're a prediction of things to come, Sidney won't have to wait 7 years before he signs with the team best suited for him. ;)
the only bad thing about the nba lottery party, is that they do the actual lottery behind closed doors, then trot out the cards and place them in their order.
would be nice to see them actually draw the pill. (nhl pill draft would great too watch also, make or break orgs)
Imiagine if Hotlanta wins. they have the cap room to get their defensive depth, along with healtey, kovalchuk, crosby, etc scarey
