AQ...thoughts?

Canes' O'Neill wants to play in Toronto

TSN.ca with News Observer files

Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff O'Neill thinks his time in Carolina is coming to an end. If it does, his preference is to play in Toronto.

According to the Raleigh News Observer, O'Neill - who is a restricted free agent - does not expect the team to tender him a qualifying offer. If the team does not make an offer, O'Neill would become a free-agent.

"If it's somewhere else, then who knows? It might even be a good thing to have a little bit of a change of scenery," O'Neill told the Observer. "It might revitalize my career. ...It might be a shot in the arm. If I'm back there, I'm back there. We'll see. It wouldn't surprise me if I wasn't back, let's put it that way."

O'Neill who has spent his entire career with the Hurricanes franchise mentioned that given a choice his preference would be to play with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"To be honest, if I was a free agent, I'd try to find a way to make it work in Toronto," the 29-year old said.

In order to keep him, the Hurricanes have to qualify O'Neill at $2.8 million, which would make him Carolina's second-highest paid player.

O'Neill was selected by the Hartford Whalers fifth overall in the 1994 Entry Draft. In 673 games he has 198 goals and 218 assists.
I can't say I blame him for wanting to play for the Leafs. 8)

If only half of the players that have already said they would like to play for the Leafs actually do sign with them...

Fergie's going to be busy handing out those buyout cheques and saying adios to more than a couple of RFA's.

O'Neill
Niedermayer
Glen Murray
Lindros
Allison
Selanne

and of course, current Leafs Domi Nieuwendyk Roberts and Marchment.

When did all of those guys say they wanted to play for the Leafs? :? Then again, doesn't everybody play want to play for the Leafs? Shut up. I can dream can't I?? Lindros is a given, and he will be a Leaf. Even if he plays with a concussion he is still a better player than Antropov.

Setting aside the tragic death of O's older brother for a moment:

Dudeman has slack conditioning habits (at best) and numerous personal issues--not the least of which is his tendency toward self-destructive behaviour. That DUI arrest he got earlier this year wasn't his first, I assure you, and tales of his public drunkenness are legendary in these parts. For a team that's especially sensitive about DUI issues, this is not a good thing.

You're welcome to him and his issues.

You don't have Leafs TV? The Leafs have a 2 hour daily radio show called Leafs Lunch

It's worth listening to.
