...as well as #1 pick Shawn Merriman. Gates however IS in camp and participating in workouts...whew!

Wrong.....Gates wants a long term deal and is a no show for training camp.

"Tight end Antonio Gates and rookie linebacker/defensive end Shawne Merriman were not present Friday as both players continue to work through contract situations. Gates, an exclusive rights free agent, is working with the Chargers on a long-term deal. Merriman is still in the process of coming to an agreement on his rookie contract."
