Celebrity among us
So I'm reading the paper this morning, and the local sports page columnist indicates that the crew announcing the High School football games in town will have as their commentator none other than...........
LAX.
LAX.

I did fill in color for a local radio station during High School ball two years ago. I am good friends with the guy who normally does it and he recommended me.
I was willing to do it again last year but he told me that the producer was kind of salty that Choctawhatchee kicked their ass and I had the "nerve" to mention that a couple of the kids on the oppposing team had signed with; Florida, Florida State, and Mid Tennessee State. Don't know what the guy expected, the entire point in bringing me into to do it was ecause I was familiar with the Indians. No sweat to me though I gave up going to OU football game to do it, and the network is one of those new smaller stations that FCC has allowed to start operating in the last five or six years. Could only be heard around about a 50 mile radius. It was still pretty damn fun and damn interesting to be part of; obviously it wasn't ESPN or something but it was simple and I was told by a number of people that I did much better than expected for someone who had never even seen the inside of a radio press box.
Congrats to LAX. If it's true (not trying to imply it isn't) you might want to consider setting up a recording of it on Webcast or something similar for the board. I know I would be interested in checking it out and giving LAX a listen.

LAX, you ought to see if you can record some of that stuff. My now-deceased granddad used to call minor league games and Perry (OK) Maroon high school baseball after he quit playing minor league ball in the late 50's....and i can speak for every member of my family we'd all love to hear that stuff from when he was a young(er) man. you got the technology.

We are sanding the rough edges, adding some polish, developing a unique style, and trolling sponsors; so to answer your question....not yet.
Sincerely,
Lax's manager.

Socal...I did the broadcasts with JJ the last couple of years. I did it voluntarily and was their spotter but when they ask me to travel to Mission Viejo on a Friday night and don't pay me, or when I travel to the Bay Area to work a game and don't get compensated I get a little pissed off. I'm good friends with JJ and would love to work with him again this year, but this is something I've always had an interest in doing and who knows, I may actually be good at something. I won't have to travel unless it's a playoff game and they're paying me.
Seer....maybe a quick PSA for the good of America's youth. Are you now my manager? Cool. Can I pay you in beer and range balls?

Lax, when you talk to these kids about USC, be sure to spend most of your time talking about guys like Greg and myself. You could talk about the guys on wearesc.com but, really, do you think it's necessary to show young impressionable kids such anger and hatred?

so youll just be doing Hart games? Thats what I always hated about fox's tv coverage, Hart is on 3 times a year, I would like to see other teams on there, and other regions, Norco and JW North have had awesome teams out in the Inland Empire but we never saw them on TV. Id also like to see something other than Mater Dei and Mission here in OC

All I'm doing are local games up here. either Hart, Canyon, Saugus, Golden Valley, Valencia, West Ranch. I agree with you about the Fox games. It seems that they always have a Hart game and nothing from the IE. They usually do either a Centennial, Corona or one other school from out there. The reason may be that a lot of schools aren't set up for TV equipment.
Lax, just be sure to post that link so's we can all listen in an make fun.
Congrats.
Seriously, if it's on the Internet somewhere, post it. I'll listen while posting on Friday nights.
Plus, you'll be more audibly famous than Jess in here.

I swear, I told my gf, "Check this out, I think there's a dude there that posts on my board!"
She looks up and says "Where?"
Me: "Nevermind. But did you hear him? He was the dude screaming, and holding up the sign."
Her:  (as if)
Me:  (you weren't fast enough)
Her: :| (Why the fuck are you bothering me?)
Me: :)

Congrats Lax. You and I will need to share some tips as I will be doing the play by play for the Ft Bend County game of the week on Fridays and calling Divison II games on Saturdays.
I have never done anything like this before so who knows how it will come off. I guess the good news is that it is on a local radio station and not a powerhouse like 610. The bad news is that the station has an agreement with an internet radio station and as such will be broadcast over the internet, therefore allowing you guys plenty of opportunity to make fun of me.
I will post the link when I find it.
