just had my live 12 man fantasy football draft....
first time i've ever sat down with other people at a table and had a fantasy draft...
here are the picks i had...10,15,29,44,50,71,77,92,105,112,124,141,171 and 190
i was amazed that i was able to get Holmes AND Moss with my first 2 picks (i was pretty sure i'd just end up getting Jamal Lewis as my first HB).
so anyhow
here's how i did and by round
#1 HB Holmes
#2 WR Moss
#3 QB Collins
#4 HB Chris Brown
#5 TE Tony Gonzales
#6 WR Chris Chambers
#7 Defense Atlanta Falcons (this pick i should have waited on for a couple rounds)
#8 QB Bledsoe
#9 HB Cedric Benson
#10 K Vanderjagt
#11 WR Troy Williamson (think this was a good pick up at 11)
#12 Utility WR Mark Clayton
#13 TE Matt Schobel
#14 K Kris Brown
#15 Utility HB Kevan Barlow
#16 Defense Rams
i think i made 1 or maybe 2 bad picks at the wrong time (falcons at pick 7 and maybe Vanderjagt at 10)
12 of us were at the table...and i'm sure because there were 3 newcomers to fantasy football altogether helped me get the team i got (Penington going in the first round).
anyhow, i'm happy with it...40 bucks to get in winner gets 480..
plus 5 bucks a week and winner for the week gets 60 bucks...
think i have a good chance at this league

Re: just had my live 12 man fantasy football draft....
Your running backs are a little weak. Holmes is a good pick- but may start to lose carries mid year to Larry Johnson if he starts to wear down or gets injured again. chris Brown is going to be splitting carries this year as well. If Barlow can revert back to his ols form- this may be good... but if last year was any tell- you'll drop him by week 6. Your QB's scare me as well- Collins is inconsitent- has been since he gave up the booze.Moby Dick wrote:

Yeah fuckers.... I'm back
Good draft - did your competition all wear drool cups?
Seriously - I can't imagine a draft where Holmes is the 10th selection and Moss lasts till 15.
And how did that work anyway? in a serpentine draft you should have had pick # 11.
In any event, your RB's after Priest are shaky - Brown gets putting on his shoulder pads. I'd try and move him for Larry Johnson as soon as possible. I think Collins is a big gamble at QB and no way does he warrant a 3rd round pick.
I give you a B-

Re: just had my live 12 man fantasy football draft....
What the hell are you doing picking a running back in the 15th round? 15th round picks are for defense and kickers PERIOD. Furthermore, you never handcuffed Priest, so you're screwed if he goes down. Cedrick Benson is still holding out, and the Bears management has not even bothered to call his agent since the start of camp. And Chris Brown is an injury a minute guy. Oh, and Troy Williamson is a so so pick at best. He's a rookie wide receiver who, as of 8/11 was walking around the Vikes practice facility in a protective boot.Moby Dick wrote: #1 HB Holmes

If I were you I would try to work a deal for Larry Johnson, Travis Henry or Thomas Jones ASAP.
Your top 3 picks look good, and you did damn good snagging Vanderjagt in the 10th round. But unless your question marks ALL come through, I wouldn't expect to see the playoffs with that lineup.

dude...the final two picks (15th and 16th) were utility only.
meaning i had already picked the required 3 HBs ,3 Wrs 2 TEs,2 QBs 2 Ks and 2 Defenses...
Barlow and Mark Clayton were my utility guys (mostly to start in the off weeks of my starters).
also..it IS a money league (480$ to the winner, plus 60 bucks a week for the guy who's team scores the most points (5 dollar a week) ).
lik ei said before...the guys who took Favre and Pennington were first time players in Fantasy Football EVER...
if any consolation a guy picked Winslow at #7 pick poor guy, the guy running the draft woudlnt let him take it back.

Yea, and I'm surprised to see Portis going # 3 - Not that he doesn't have the talent but after last years abortion of a season how do you peg him higher than Alexander or James?BSmack wrote:What the hell are you doing picking a running back in the 15th round? 15th round picks are for defense and kickers PERIOD. As for Collins, he's high risk, high reward to be sure, but no way does he warrant 3rd round status unless you scoring is heavily skewed towards QB's (Sup Jackasses?)

the guy who drafted portis is who i play week 1.
also in our league with the defense we picked also comes special teams...so the Atlanta D wasnt too bad of a pick (considering they had quite a few returns for TDs).

Re: just had my live 12 man fantasy football draft....
Barlow is a peice of crap who will give you nothing. There is a reason why he was available in the 15th round. You should have used that pick in the 6th round to protect your investment with either Holmes (Larry Johnson) or Brown (Travis Henry). The same goes for your wasted #7 pick. That should have been used on an insurance policy on Randy Moss. Ronald Curry should have been available then. In fact, judging by the level of extreme retardation shown by your competition, it is entirely possible that Jerry Porter was still hanging around in round 7.Moby Dick wrote:dude...the final two picks (15th and 16th) were utility only. meaning i had already picked the required 3 HBs ,3 Wrs 2 TEs,2 QBs 2 Ks and 2 Defenses...

Re: just had my live 12 man fantasy football draft....
I play in a evenly balanced league and Favre before Alexander is completely off the charts stupid. The average draft position for Favre is running between the 6th and 5th rounds. Even if you think he's going to go off for 4k 30 TDs, you still should have been able to wait to the 3rd round to reach for him.mvscal wrote:I'm guessing you play in one of those idiotic 'running back uber alles' leagues. Change your rules. You'll wonder why you didn't do it years ago. It really opens up the early rounds in the draft.
4K and 30 TDs are easily within Farve's reach especially considering GB's putrid defense. Those are first round numbers for sure.
Or, let me put it to you in other terms. If you passed on Favre and took Alexander, you could still get a 3700 yard 30 TD guy in the second round. If you take Favre and skip Alexander, you don't get the same value at RB in round 2.

Re: just had my live 12 man fantasy football draft....
No-The top 3 players in the league in terms of total points scored were all QB's. Favre actually scored more then Alexander. But there are more qb's in Favre's scoring range then there are RB's in Alexander's range. So I'd be more likely to go for a RB like Alexander knowing I could still land someone like Collins in the 3rd or 4th round and still come away with a RB combo of Alexander and Rudi Johnson.mvscal wrote:I'm guessing you play in one of those idiotic 'running back uber alles' leagues. Whereas if draft Favre in the 1st round, I'd have to go RB 2nd and 3rd round and come away with Cory Dillon and Fred Taylor.
I like my original selection, thanks.
