Yo Doltfan, bring it!!!!!
I'll try and be as partial as I can when I break this game down. Keep in mind I sometimes but on the silver and blue shades and think back to the good ole days.
Dallas has looked pretty damn good on defense this preseason and I know one can attribute that to second and third stringers sucking dick. However if you've been a Boys fan for as long as I have then you know this defense has something special. I look for the Boys to concentrate on stopping LT, not an easy task, but with Gates out, could be doable. Make Brees step up and perform like he did last year, which is what I see as the downfall for the Chargers. I'm looking at the DROY, Demarcus Ware to have a couple sacks in this game and cause a couple turnovers either fumble or hurried up pass resulting in an interception. The kid is a beast, and with the depth the Boys have on the DL, they should be fresh for a full 4 quarters. Not to mention both Henry and Newman have looked a lot more confident allowing Roy Williams to sneak up closer to the line and murder anyone that dares go over the middle. If you have any doubts, please see the Houston Texan preseason game
On offense it should be a heavy dose of Julius Jones and committee, followed by some play action passing. If the Boys don't establish somewhat of a running game then this game could be over early. Keep Bledsoes mistakes to a minimum, which I think they will, and you have yourself a week 1 victory.
Ahhh, now that wasn't as bad as I thought. Oh yes, my final prediction:
Boys 27
Dolts 17
Sig bets for anyone who is game.

I don't see it that way DF.
Gates will be missed but it will not bring the offense to screeching halt. The OL last year was a strength of the team and they are all back and healthy. I can still see plenty of solid run blocking for LT and pass protection for Brees. While the reciever corp is not heralded as a stellar group, McCardell is a solid possession type guy and Caldwell was on the verge of a breakout season last year before he got hurt, and he is back healthy. Parker is an exciting reciever when he is healthy which he is now at least for the opener.
Defense we will have to see what improvements were actually made. Last year they were pretty solid against the run but sucked against the pass. At lot of that can be attributed to the lack of a pass rush but the Bolts tried to address that in this last draft we can only wait and see how that pans out. If they can at least pressure Bledsoe out of the pocket he will be ineffective.
Scifres is becoming one of the better punters in the league, both in downed punts inside the 20 as well as returns or lack there of per punt. He booms it high which gives the coverage team time to get down in the face of the returner.
I believe this Charger team is better than last years but with the tougher schedule I don't think their final record will reflect it.
SO WTF, let myopia reign supreme.... It's going to be a stellar ass-raping
Chargers 31
Cowboys 9
I'll call your sig bet.

You mean the call about sig bets being for faggots?mvscal wrote:This thread will be here for at least a week. If I had no confidence, I wouldn't have made the call I did.
I understand your problem. You stumbled into the smackboard NFL forum not knowing of what you speak.
This is a common malady of newbies, not accustomed to having to actually back up the shit, or go down in flames trying..
This too, shall be corrected.
Huh?mvscal wrote:This thread will be here for at least a week. If I had no confidence, I wouldn't have made the call I did.
So why not take on a weak-ass sig bet? Either you're confident or you aren't. Either you want to make someone eat their words through a sig of your liking, or you really aren't that confident.
I still don't understand how this is any skin off you, but I am cracking up at how paranoid you are of a simple sig bet.
Only a pussy would pass up a gimme like this one.mvscal wrote:So where is your prediction, tough guy? Or are you just here to player hate?
Dazzle us with your "brilliance".
S.D. 33-14 over the Cowboys*.
Sig bets aren't nearly as geigh as the pussies that run from them.

There's a reason the chargers leading recievers last year were LT and Gates.
And LT was the leading reciever the year before.
Nobody else to throw to.
Cowboys will focus on stopping LT, and will shut down the dolts.
Dallas 24
San Diego 6
Good thing you have an epic punting team, you'll need it this season.

I'm in for a sig/Av bet as well.
It's good to see the boltfan rounding into mid-season form. 3 yards and a cloud of punts... but don't worry! Our punter kicks ass!
Dallas will have a top 5 defense by the time this season wraps up, and will be fighting for the number 1 ranking. Mark my words. We'll talk on Monday about how Gates missing didn't affect the game. Maybe even revisit a thread or two where Boltfan claims it will have no impact. Our secondary is going to dominate your recievers, and with solid line play, LT will be limited. Bledsoe is going to be better than most people think, and for this game, will carve your secondary apart. Even if Gates was playing, he'd still only be the second best TE in the game. Whitten is going to have another monster season, as will Julius Jones.
Cowboys 28
Bolts 17

DF with an unbiased take? Bwhaha more like an uninformed one.
I have a little different angle on this game. Turns out a buddy of mine’s daughter is married to La’Roi Glover. So I have his 2nd hand take on the state of the Cowboys. Believe what you will.
Needless to say La’Roi wasn’t too thrilled with the team going to a 34 alignment. Basically he feels he just gets too beat up. But Bill Parcells assured him that newly acquired Jets NT Jason Ferguson would be in for running downs and Glover would be in for passing downs only. So what happens? Ferguson goes down the 1st week and La'Roi ends up manning the nose for 100% of TC, and up until the last week or so. Turns out nobody else on the Boy’s roster could play the nose to stop the run in the 34 alignment. La'Roi mentioned to my buddy that he wanted to ask for a trade after the 1st game and after he received his roster bonus. Well about a week ago Jerrah tells Glover that the team is interested in signing him to an extension, aka more guaranteed bonus money. I guess Bill and Jerrah realize Glover is their most consistent DLman. It should make the news if Glover signs an extension. La’Roi does think the defense will be improved from last season.
As for the offense he doesn’t see enough improvement. The team last year needed an ORT and still does. The Cowboys can’t run the ball on the right side….period. When they need tough yards they’ll run behind OLG Larry Allen, but teams stack up that left side in the 2nd half minimizing Allen’s effectiveness. Parcell’s wanted to move Larry Allen to ORT, but Allen told him to stick it where the sun don’t shine. On top of the RT quandary newly acquired Packers ORG Marco Rivera’s back is still giving him problems.
As for Julius Jones, Glover thinks he’s too fragile and won’t hold up. A great burst but he’s always dinged up was his description. A-Train may get a lot of work this year, he seems more like a Parcells type of RB is my take.
Bledsoe continues to hold onto the ball too long. Something the coaching staff is trying very hard to correct, but according to Glover hasn’t been fixed yet.
So picking this game is easy for me. The Chargers will limit the Cowboys rushing attack, and force Bledsoe to throw the ball more than Parcells would like. I think Drew will have a couple of TD passes, but I also think he’ll take some sacks and force the ball, creating a turnover or two.
The team that can run the ball more effectively wins the game. That team will be the Chargers.
Chargers – 24
Cowboys - 20

Glad to see you got the inside scoop Joe. You are a notch above the national enquirer.
LeeRoy thinks JJ's too fragile after one injury? I mean I could understand if JJ was hurt time and time again last season, but shit, the boy put up 800+ yards & 7 TD's in 8 games. You do the math Joe and let me know if this adds up to a solid half season. Also consider the workload he received when he got back and you didn't see him once take himself out of a game. I'll chalk up this one to the fact that "your buddy's daughter" doesn't know what the fuck she's talking about.
LeeRoy is afraid he will get too beat up? Dude, I am betting my life that this statement didn't come from his mouth. His wife...errrr your buddy's daughter's cockholster came up with this one. I guess I choose to disbelieve.
There will be plenty of rotation on the defensive line, and players will be fresh. The great thing about it is you'll see for yourself come the fourth quarter on sunday.
As far as thr ORT goes, you're more right than you are wrong. I mean Pettiti has done a solid job and thats all anyone can ask of a rookie. I mean he was doing better than any other candidate out there. If a free agent pops up in the mix, it wouldn't surprise me to see dallas go after them. But Rivera will take charge on that side of the line and I look for him to lead the charge when it comes to running the ball on his side.
Finally as far as Bledsoe, sure Joe, your sources are 100% dead on. He holds the ball long, gets sacked, and makes some pretty crazy decisions. One thing I also know he does is throw touchdowns, which is what I guarantee he will do on your suspect secondary.
I'm sure your buddy has "the inside track" on Cowboys tickets. If he ever has some and wants to give them up, feel free to PM me.

I for one know that the whole season will be set up by week 3 for the Cowboys, and it all rests on Bledsoe's shoulders. He has weapons he hasn't had since the Patriots, Julius, Whitten, Meshawn,Glenn, and Price.
I knew that ANY QB with a fair amount of efficiency could guide this team in 2005, and Bledsoe was the best option by far. Julius alone will open up the passing game, and once Bledsoe figures out that he has a pro-bowl tight end, it will all be easy.
On the Defense side, we still have a soft middle, you can always pass on us in the middle, you might get creamed when you catch the ball from time to time, but you'll still get the first down, and until we get some safeties that can cover, that will ALWAYS be the weakness, but hey, you never know, Demarcus could give the Boyz pressure we haven't had since Haley, and as we all know, a good DE/LB can change your whole defense..
I still will say the Cowboys squeak out a 17-13 win
Didn't the Chargers get their asses kicked at home in the playoffs by the Jets? Same type of offense and defense as the Cowboys..HMMMM

Somebody in here, I think it was Dumbass007, ( I didn't pay much attention ) said JJ would open up the passing game..bwa-freekin-ha....you don't run aginst the Bolts
This guy blows up the middle on every play, and our core of Backers will rock fragile JJ into oblivion.
Now before I go on a freekin rant...how's bout an even fiddy on the game.

Inside information gax? I guess that's what it is when you don't like what it contains. Of course you don't have to believe any of it. It's your own boys thought on the team, not mine. I could care less.
I figured posting a take & claiming it was La'Roi's would open me up for a few shots. The real question is why would I make it up? I could have posted the same thing as my take. Why I find it interesting is because Glover is a Pro Bowl type DT, and if the Oline has a weakness he'd be the one who would know. Not to mention his evaluation is quite a bit different from the hyperbole on NFL websites.
So there's only two questions that matter.
1. Is Joe in PB making all this up?
2. If not, does La'Roi know what he's talking about?
In the news from Dallas you'll find Parcells is trying everybody out on the right side. If you read between the lines, maybe that's so everyone will feel comfortable in the case of injury.....or maybe he's concerned the right side of the OLine couldn't push it's way out of a wet paper bag.
Good luck running off tackle......

When the Cowboys have the ball:
Here at Fanball.com we’re rarely afraid to be bold, edgy, and downright offensive, but there are some things we’ll never do, such as tugging on Superman’s cape, fighting a land war in Asia, and lying to Cowboy fans. People in Texas openly own and carry guns, and we generally don’t like to mess with that particular state. Heck, most of the time we like to believe they are their own country. Anyway, we’re not going to beat around the bush in this matchup. We reckon the Cowboys’ offense doesn’t line up well against the Chargers’ defense. The ’Boys want to grind the ball, but the Bolts finished third against the run last year. San Diego is vulnerable against the pass, but the deteriorating Drew Bledsoe is making his first start with his new teammates. It’s strength vs. strength; weakness vs. weakness. Considering the Chargers defense is returning in full force (plus the addition of two first-round rookies), we’re giving them the edge in the key ground battle. When Julius Jones carried the load against two top-10 rushing defenses last season (Ravens, Redskins), he managed 148 yards and no touchdowns on 52 carries. That’s not good. Fantasy owners should only expect 70-75 yards, but considering that the Chargers allowed eight rushing scores in eight home games last year, Juice will likely take a short plunge. We’d like to predict a storybook start for Bledsoe, but, again, we prefer not to lie. Over his past 35 starts, Drew has combined 200 yards and multiple touchdowns only once. Yes, once. Sigh. The Chargers secondary is bendable and we’ll predict 225 yards for Drew, but he’ll only break them once. As with Vinny the Ancient, Bledsoe will likely come to figure out that tight end Jason Witten is his best receiver, but there’s no guarantee that the two will be on the same page in week one. Keyshawn Johnson, Terry Glenn, and Peerless Price will also demand looks, and while Witten is a must-start every week, we suggest avoiding this passing game altogether if possible.
FANTASY PROGNOSIS: The sequel to Drew Brees’ breakout season may be more like Caddyshack 2 on the whole, but the visiting Cowboys give him a Godfather 2-type opportunity in week one.
When the Chargers have the ball:
If the Chargers are anxious to prove their shocking 2004 playoff berth was no fluke, they could not have asked for a better week-one opponent. The Dallas D was more soft shell crab than fighting Tuna last season, especially on the road, where they gave up nearly 29 points per game to such “explosive” offenses as the Redskins, Ravens, and Giants. While LaDainian Tomlinson will always be the centerpiece of the Bolts’ attack, there’s little debate that the effectiveness of their passing game fueled their emergence a year ago. A Dallas defense that ceded 262 passing yards (27th in the NFL) and 2.5 quarterback touchdowns (31st) per away game, coupled with Drew Brees’ home splits (17 scores in seven games), represents a solid starting opportunity for Drew. Not surprisingly, the Cowboys’ wretched secondary also had trouble stopping opposing receivers on the road, permitting more scores to home wideouts than any team in the league. In addition, only six squads gave up more touchdowns to tight ends last season. Unfortunately, all-world tight end Antonio Gates will serve one of the dumbest suspensions of all time on Sunday, and the Chargers’ receiving picture is about as clear as Jennifer Aniston’s familial intentions. Throughout the preseason, Keenan McCardell, Reche Caldwell, and Eric Parker have taken turns either serving as Brees’ favorite target or alternatively, tending to a nagging hammy injury. Until this rotation reveals itself in some meaningful way, stick all three on the pine. You didn’t draft any of them to start in week one anyway, and Brees will likely spread his 220 yards and two touchdowns among his receivers, reserve tight ends, and running backs. Speaking of runners, how will the consensus top pick in fantasy football fare? You know L.T. will score—he did at least once in all but one game a year ago. Take his 130 total yards (career per-game average) and two scores (one receiving) and go pat yourself on the back for drawing the right straw on draft day. With points-a-plenty and perfect conditions on tap in SoCal, Nate Kaeding is a nice play at kicker despite his recent case of the shanks.
