Weis the REAL DEAL

Post by T REX »

I will be the first to come correct and say I was dead wrong. Weis's knowledge of the game is beyond measuring. This is all you need to know.............

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- A mere two games into his coaching career at Notre Dame, Charlie Weis has joined Knute Rockne in the record books -- and has his team playing like the Fighting Irish of old.

Brady Quinn threw two touchdown passes in the first half and the 20th-ranked Fighting Irish held on to beat No. 3 Michigan 17-10 Saturday, making Weis the first Notre Dame coach to win his first two games on the road since Rockne in 1918.

Rockne......heard of him. Notre Dame made a great hire. He alone changes the outcome of games. He just plains knows football.

Very impressed by ND. Weis might end up having a storybook season. Oct. 15th vs. USC will possibly be the game of the year.

Don't have time to take too many lumps right now.

Weis' offense didn't impress me.

But Carr's offense really didn't impress me

Fire 'em all...no way Michigan should lose that game.

embarrasing....i'm pissed, drunk, hungry and I have to go deal with my girlfriends family.

Fuck the Irish.

Fuck Lloyd Carr and the rest of them.

The Irish are well coached, and don't make mistaes like they did in previous years(sup Willingham regime). That being said,Lloyd Carr has done so little with so much at Michigan. He's John Cooper in Maze and Blue.

RACK!

Every year, it's the same story...this team finds a way to lose a game they shouldn't. This game further proves how important Edwards was to this team last year. Henne doesn't have his #1 target and he looks lost out there. As for Carr, I'm at a loss for words. I'll give Weis credit for getting this offense to play well with a mediocre roster. Walker is a stud back but the rest of the team average at best. It's another dark day in Michigan football history...

The Irish made a few mistakes today. They were far from flawless. The Wolverines had chances to score and win this game and they failed. Henne made a terrible decision on the interception and Carr should be raked over the coals for having run the QB sneak which led to the fumble. Weis' team did just enough to win but they weren't overwelming or impressive by any means.

But they play as a unit. That Pats team unity thing seems to be going on at ND.

Carr won a national championship with Michigan in '97 (and it should have been an undisputed national championship, btw). I'll agree that he's largely rested on his laurels since that time, but most schools will give you a lot of leeway if you have one of those under your belt.

Btw, props to T REX for coming correct and getting over his ND obsession.

So much for Trev Alberts prediction that ND would start 0-6. Fuckstick had no clue.

Them beating Pittsburgh wasn't a shock. I would've guessed before the year they would start 3-3. Lose today and against USC for sure, beat Pittsburgh and Washington and they'd split the MSU and Purdue games. This isn't an overly-talented team but Weis is getting plenty of mileage out of them. Man-for-man, Michigan has the better talent but they didn't have the better coach on Saturday.

Props Rex. I think both schools made great hires.

As for UofM fans, esp. Schoalzie, please don't give me that "the rest of the team is average" crap. Quinn, Stovall, Harris, LeVoir, etc. all had UofM offers in hand when they chose ND. Weis is the first coach in 8 years that is actually getting all out of the talent on the roster.

Blind, I looked for you for a bit in the spot you were for the last ND game at UofM but I didn't see you.

Blind and UM folks, don't get too despondent about Carr, wait at least until after the PSU game. Paterno generally makes Carr look like Lombardi...

I've calmed a bit....I don't hate Carr as much as I did.

After watching the highlights and reading more about the game, its comes down to players.

I don't think Carr lost that game....the players did.

Teams lose, it happens...Michigan losses less than most teams and it always bothers me. What hurts fans the most I think is when you dedicate time and energy and emotions into a team and you don't see the same commitment from the players.

The offense lacked heart.

Period.

I think Michigan has a good chance still to win the Big Ten and make this a good season. Hopefully this is the wake up call.

Go Blue.

Agree with this. Henne undoubtedly played his worst game as a collegian. Hart going down with an injury early on didn't help, and Grady didn't quite live up to the hype . . . at least not yet. Lots of other players had bad games too.

Michigan had their chances late, but turnovers were a killer. And two replay calls in the 4th quarter both went against Michigan, although I honestly think the replay official got both right.
Teams lose, it happens...Michigan losses less than most teams and it always bothers me. What hurts fans the most I think is when you dedicate time and energy and emotions into a team and you don't see the same commitment from the players.
Maybe this is Marcus Allen-esque, but I think the reason why losses bother college football fans to such an extent is that without a playoff system, losses are much more costly in college football than in any other sport, even the NFL (I use the NFL as a comparison because it is the only other major spectator sport which plays anywhere near as few games in its regular season as does college football).

One of the reasons why I'm pushing for a 16-team playoff system, and I know I'm in the minority on that, is that I think it'll add at least 20 years to my life expectancy. No more hanging on the edge of my seat, one skipped beat away from a heart attack, every Saturday afternoon in the fall.
