Heisman?

Post by peter dragon »

So does it become a Leinhert / VYoung race? with AD and Ginn bowing out?

or does it go to a smaller school player? or defense? mabe AJ? or the first DB to make a nice Heisman pose on national TV? what about Leak or Leek or how ever you spell it?

personally, its VYoungs to lose at this point in the season.. Leinheart better step it up to garner attention..

Bush is more likely to win it than Leinart. Of course, White and Bush competing for touches hurts him.

Vince Young is definitley the man to beat in this race so far. I still believe Reggie McNeal is a wild card at this time. The Clemson loss really hurt his chances. The main reason Reggie won't win will be due to his defense, not his performance.

I was really impressed with Stanton for MSU. They have to win out, but if they play as hard as they did today, it is a possibility.

Peterson was out of it before the season began. All you have to do is put 9 in the box and OU is beat. They can still figure some things out, but with a couple bad losses already, no way he gets back into the race.

Ginn is out too but that's mainly just because he's a receiver. QBs and RBs own this award. There have been some WRs who have won, but it is mostly a QB/RB award.

Overall, I think QB of the winner of the t.u./A&M game will win the Heisman.

It's a little early in the year, don't ya think? Leinart has played a grand total of ONE game.

it won't be Young,Mcneil, etc

Leinhart or Bush

When they lay 50 onND, one of them will become the leader, and finish it out as the #1 candidate and winner.

Like I said if Young leads Texas to a win over OU you can just mail him the trophy he will have all the pub he needs as long as he stays healthy and doesn't lay a monster egg it is his.

It is easy to play running back when everyone is worried about Leinhert. It is easy to play quarterback when you have Bush behind you. I would like to see how good they are without the other.

I'm pretty sure Bush would do well with Bucky Richardson behind center on crutches. That guy just owns.

Just to follow up on dragon's original post (and I stand by my earlier statement that it's too early for Heisman talk)...

I'm just trying to figure out how the Heisman is Young's to lose. Isn't it really Leinart's to lose? After all, he did win the thing last year. Including today, Leinart has thrown for a little over 700 yards, 7 TD's and rushed for one. Young has thrown for about 550 yards, 5 TD's and 1 rushing.

USC has played 2 games. Texas...3. I don't know how much Young has played but Leinart has yet to see the 4th quarter this year.

Anyway, enough Heisman talk. Enough about Young. It's Leinart's to lose and the guy that could take it from him plays on the same team.

Leinart has to be better than he was last year to win it this year. He set the bar for himself pretty god damn high. They will not reward him with an equivalent or less than equivalent season. Can he be better? Sure. Realistically? Doubt it.

The slate for the Heisman race is wiped clean before each season. It's not like a boxing match where someone has to beat the champ. Leinart has good numbers so far this year but USC sure as hell hasn't played a team anywhere near as good as Ohio State. Edge = Young.

I agree with Greg: it's Leinhart's to lose.

I know it'll mean the world to Texas and its fans if/when they defeat OU. However, on a national level, it won't mean anything. After two consecutive NC beatdowns, OU is perceived nationally as a fraud of sorts. With OU's domination of the Big 12, our whole conference is viewed as weak. Now, with OU struggling, a Texas victory won't mean much to anyone outiside of Texas and Oklahoma. A large performance by Young won't make much of a national statement.

Further, after Jason White's "stellar" performances in the NC games and his lack of NFL allure, folks might be hesitant to give the Heisman to another Big 12 QB. In addition, Young probably won't have the best QB stats in the Big 12. Those will likely be owned by the Tech-Tard Cody Hodges, who will pass for over 500,000 yards.

Now, the victory against tOSU will take on even more importance if tOSU goes on to kick ass in the Big 10. That could bode well for Young.

Leinart, on the other hand, is a pretty pin-up boy with a host of weapons and a nasty defence. He's the first player East-coasters get a look at on Sunday morning; he's the last player Middle America and the Left Coast get to see on Saturday night.

I partially agree with Frisco: if Young puts up big numbers against the weak, slow, and small crackheads in the A&M secondary, that will have added meaning because of the few games played that day (T+1). Those highlights will be broadcast all freakin' day while I grow increasingly bitter and drunk.

Cody Hodges will get huge stats of course but the "system qb" tag won't let him be in the race. I hate to see what he will do to Neb in a few weeks. We won't completely take it in the ass like last season but considering that Taco actually has a defense this year and their offense looks even better I'll be happy if we are just competitive.

Dan, just pointing out potential stats. Hodges doesn't have a chance.

Andre Hall is a great back. Nothing wrong w/ 1st Team All Big East and USF's all-time leading rusher when he is done.

Nothing wrong with that at all. To think he will accomplish that all in just 2 seasons is a great feat.

He needs to come up huge the next 2 weekends if we are to have any shot.

how does Leinart not deserve to be on the same level as archie griffin? he has lost 1 game in his career and may possibly be the first qb to lead back to back to back championship teams.... griffin may not deserve to be on Mattys level

485 yards and 5 TDs is about par for the course against the Mich St secondary.
