Cancel that game for Saturday and free up those rooms for people on the gulf coast. You can play that game later in the season, or you could line up your 1st teams against each other and prepare much better than playing Texas State.

Call off the game and allow your alumns to cancel their hotel rooms. Those rooms are needed now so playing on Thursday isn't any better.

The game will be cancelled. I have no doubt about it. It was just a scrimmage anyway.

Also, since it's 1-AA, don't the stats not even count anyways as far as BCS is concerned?

Well, a LOT has to happen before A&M figures into any BCS talk. It's not an easy road, but it is still very possible for us to win out. TOugh games in Lubbock and Norman and then at home vs. t.u. to end the year. If we do that, we have a chance.

In any case, I was penning that in as a W meaning the W woudn't count.

Poor decision Robert! This game shoudn't be played on Thursday either. This stinks of nothing but a money grab. I have been a fan of most of the guys decisions since taking the post, but this is poor. As Indy pointed out there is no reason to play this game.

And what with almost 700,000 people facing a mandatory evacuation right now and another 1.1 facing mandatory evacuations overnight from Orange to Corpus Christi, playing this game is nothing short of irresponsible.

Here's hoping most Ags stay away from the game to keep the roads open for those fleeing this cat 5 storm. I would like nothing more than seeing an empty upper decks so that Gates can see just how poor his decision is.

Gates explicitly tells Ags to stay home.

From an official University e-mail:

I [Gates]have talked with the President of Texas State University, and we have
decided to play our football game on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The weather
is expected to be clear and we believe the game will be televised.
Yell practice will be at 9 p.m. Wednesday on Simpson Drill Field.
This was an exceptionally difficult decision, and I made it based
primarily on the strong desire of both teams to play, the strong
sentiment expressed by our students to attend, and by the fact that the
student athletes from Texas State can return home safely on Thursday
night and our students will have plenty of time to go home should they
choose to do so.

However, circumstances require that we make adjustments in addition to
timing. Above all, we must do what we can not to add to vehicular
traffic on Brazos County highways, which may be heavily used by
evacuees. I urge, in the strongest possible terms, that all fans who
do not live in Bryan and College Station remain home and watch the game
on television. This will ease the burden on local and state law
enforcement and emergency personnel. Also, we understand there will be
no hotel rooms available in the Bryan/College Station area Thursday
night. Let me be clear: we are holding this game primarily for the
students, and if you do not live in Bryan and College Station, STAY
HOME.

We must all hope that these precautionary measures and decisions will
prove unnecessary. Our students, faculty and staff showed the entire
country what the Aggie Spirit was all about in our many efforts to
assist others in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Now we must look
to caring for the Aggie family – and the guests we will welcome from
evacuated areas -- as Hurricane Rita approaches. I have no doubt that
in the days ahead we will see the same level of commitment,
selflessness hard work, generosity and character -- in short, Aggie
Spirit – as we saw after Katrina.

Gates consulted with with local and state emergency authorities and law enforcement, deans, and vice presidents. Let me add another part of the statement:

We [TAMU] have agreed to provide shelter for students from the University
of Houston and Texas Southern University. In addition, the College of
Veterinary Medicine has been asked to serve as a back-up medical
facility for hospitals in the Galveston/Harris County area.

I tell you what really pisses me off, though, and I AM NOT MAKING THIS up, is that Gates is forcing -- FUCKING FORCING -- Texas State students to drive the 875 miles from San Marcos to College Station -- through MOUNTAINS and deserts and shit -- to attend that game. That's just not right. I mean -- COME ON -- making game attendance mandatory is BULLSHIT.

Sorry, correction: I just checked, and it's 945 miles from San Marcos to College Station. AND, the outer bands of RITA have ALREADY wahed out the roads. The motherfuckers are going to have to swim, canoe, or tube to College Station now. Good thing they all have inner tubes (a Texas State requirement for admittance).

It was 102 today, and autumn starts tomorrow. I heard one crazy bastard say that he'll welcome Rita because "it'll cool things off."

There won't be a drop of rain tomorrow night at the game. There won't be a drop of water available at the HEBs (SA grocery stores). There won't be an appropriate drop of the Aggie CBs during some long passes.

Bad decision on Gate’s part. They only care about the W. While it won’t be counted as a W as far as the BCS is concerned, they will still show to be 2-1 in the records on the season and that win will make their numbers look better to the poll voters which will in turn affect the BCS standings which in turn affects the payout we’d get from a bowl game.

It is about the money. It’s a bad decision. I’m embarrassed for all Aggies right now.

My mom, dad and brother are all still in Lake Jackson boarding up their houses. My brother has to work until 5:00 today. My mom needs to GTFO yesterday, and as I said before, my dad has to stay as part of the hurricane response team. While the road from San Marcos to A&M isn’t long nor a heavily traveled road, it still should not get filled up with people commuting to and from a game. People are moving to higher ground from all areas and they will be looking for roads other than interstates to travel on.

There really is no reason to play the game -- there wasn't a reason to play the game in the first place.

The local news media reportred LAST NIGHT that there are only scattered hotel rooms -- if any -- in San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas. Folks are being routed to Amarillo, El Paso, and Lubbock. A buddy of mine spent the night in a Wal-Mart parking lot with his wife and five-year-old. He said it took him 5.5 hours to travel 5o miles on I-10.
