Hey poptart

Post by kcdave »

Brah, I hope you see this message soon, or not for a week. GET THE FUCK OUT OF DODGE DUDE!

That bitch Rita is on the way, and if my memories of Houston serve me, then Houston is basically in the same situation as N.O. was. Big town, flat as a pancake, below sea-level, and right next to a huge lake. Dunno what part of town you are in, but grab your halloween raiduh gear, your rackets, white shorts, sweat bands, and get the hell out now!

Also, dont forget to make your picks in the contests!

Peeps, lets all send some good will poptarts way, as well as for everyone in the path of Rita.

mods let this one ride in this forum if you dont mind.

Thanks, dave.

I live pretty well NW of the city, 90-100 miles from Galveston. I'm not in a flood area at all. But yeah, I am very concerned about the winds.

My wife and I are in the process of getting "hurricane ready" and have not made a decision yet as to stay or go. Most folks in our area are staying.

It really depends on what we see of the projected hurricane track over the next 12 hrs or so. We may yet head out of town tomorrow. We have a place to go in Dallas if we need to get out. We'll see.

I'll be in a rush to get my picks in, so I'm tempted to just go with whatever Wags goes with.

Houston, besides being 50 miles from the Coast, is mostly far above above sea level (far being 50' or so :D ). There are some low lying areas of Houston that are at or near sea level and will flood from the bayou overflow and rain. It's nowhere near as dangerous as New Orleans. We don't have levees or anything like that.

Galveston Island will certainly be washed out by storm surge.

Fu, we live in the same neck of the woods.

Are you staying....?

If so, how concerned are you about dying...? :?

How concerned are you about serious wind damage to your home...?

I'm leaning toward staying, btw.

There's a storm outside? Could have fooled me, I haven't even looked out the window in a couple of months.

If it were just me, I'd stay. Since I have a 3 1/2 month old baby, I'm leaving. Safety is an obvious concern but I'm more worried about not having power after the storm. I can't have the kid sitting around in the 100 degree heat. My wife's cousin lives in Dallas. We're heading that way in the early morning.

Pop, you may be a rayduh fan, but all smack aside here.

Best of luck to you, your family and your house. I feel fortunate enough to live in a place where hurricanes don't even hold together long enough to make it up here, but I do feel for what you may be about to encounter.

Hang in there! We need more good posters to stick around longer!

God speed.

Shouldn't we have a sticky for them to check back in when all is said and done ?

Hey tart, I got the evil eye from the head coach when I was standing in the middle of the field, cellphone in hand. The kids didnt mind though, as it kept me from chewing their asses for a few minutes.

Good to hear you are some what removed from the areas of H-town that may get the worst of the storm, and even better that the latest track shows it may move slighty south of you.

I used to have family that lived down in Deer Park, and still have a buddy that lives there. When I talked with him earlier, he was just about to leave as was the whole neighborhood. He and I had both seen some shit on The Weather Channel, with a flood prediction showing Deer Creek Golf Course under 8 feet of water. Yikes. I love that place and have been planning to go back this winter.

Keep in touch, and do whats best for you and yours.

I hope the rest of the H-Town folks got out. Until they open up all of the traffic flowing North, NW or West... I can't get out. Traffic has literally stopped moving.

Wife and I are ridin' it out here, Fu.

Roads....?

Absolute gridlock. Folks in cars 10, 12, 15, 20 hrs and getting almost NOWHERE.

Running out of gas, 100 degrees out.

Nowhere to go, no gas to be found.

Flat fucked.

There's gonna be hell to be paid for asking folks to get out and then not having BOTH sides of the road open for traffic.

Unreal.

Neighbors around me are also riding it out.

Wife and I have a nice nest set up in our master bedroom closet.

Most protected place in the house.

Projected storm track has shifted east some.

We're on the "clean" side now by a fair amount.......hopefully, fingers crossed.

Me like that.

Go east, storm, you CAN do it.

Those that are the praying type........give me a prayer, please.

More later.

Two category 5 storms within a few weeks of each other? Normally a cat 5 storm pops up every five to ten years or so.

Good luck and prayers to all.

Good question, Cueball.

They finally did, but it needed to be done 24 hrs earlier.

Guess they were worried about the lone hillbilly clueless Texas fuck (who hasn't seen a tv in days) turning out onto the road going the "wrong" way and plastering a bunch a' folks.

I dunno, but trust me, it was/is a MAJOR problem.

Thanks Paul, Scott.

It looks like it's going more and more east, Tart. I'm chillin' at the parents crib ON FUCKING DIAL UP (I didn't know people still had this?) about 2 miles from Deer Park hoping to wake up with a home in Kemah come Sunday. Pretty glad I stocked up on the beers and Jack Daniels...oh yes I am.

Hope all you SoTex board geeks make it out as safe a possible.

I live between Galveston and Houston and left early enough yesterday to beat the really nasty traffic. What is normally about a forty five minute drive was more like six hours, but we made it. We are holed up in The Heights on the NW side of Houston. We've got plenty of beer and our host has a nicely-stocked bar with a couple of bottles that start with Glen. Never been a scotch drinker, but I might give it a go before it's all said and done.

To the rest of you Texans in the path, stay safe. To everyone else, thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

See you all in a few days.

Great news tart. Seeing that you have posted, also means you have electricity, and are not stuck up in the attic. Thats awesome.

That means it time to get back to business around here!

Save yourself some misery, and pretend that you did lose power. Kill all the circuit breakers, and avoid watching that raiduh beatdown that Philly will be putting on the tomorrow. OOOPS! My bad. You've already made plans for that I see. Eagles w/ your 9 pick. NICE! 0-3 will be sweet. Let the raiduhs lose another 3 or 4, and I will become a bigger raiduh honk than you ever thought of being. Fuckers will need to beat someone to even things out, and sure cant let them get the #1 overall pick.

In with lots of AC and many, many beers finding it's home in my belly. The whipping 75 mph sustained winds showed us some love around 2am and didn't say adios until about 5am, and the power showed Rita who was boss. 12 hours of that shit was not dope though.

Gas at 4 dollars a gallon this week is gonna suck, if we can even find it.
