XBox 2 and Playstation 3

Post by ElTaco »

BBC just released an article about the new generation console systems.

http://News.bbc.co.uk/...

Basically, no one knows for sure what exactly will happen with the new systems. MS and Sony are trying to come up with entertainment hubs, while Nintendo will continue to focus on gaming. Certain things are known, such as hard drives and bigger capacity. Supposedly according to this article PS3 will have more power then xbox. Xbox seems to be farther along, already having given out their developers pack to EA.
Big improvements should be with graphics. There is some question as to HDTV compatibility. From the sound of things, that is one assumption to help drive the hdtv market since gamers tend to buy into expensive technology as long as their is a return.
Also should expect big improvement after the first year in the physics and the general game surroundings. Also there is a prediction that there will be a huge improvement in the game intelligence.

After reading the article, I've got to say that some of those ideas are on my nerves a little bit.
What is certain is that the new machines will provide great leaps in processing and graphical power.

It is also likely that they will contain convergence technologies to make the machines more of an entertainment hub.

...Bill Gates said Xbox 2 would be part of his vision of the digital lifestyle.

While short on detail, he painted a picture of a machine that would complement a PC and offer "great video gaming but video gaming for a broader set of people, more communications, more media, more connectivity".

Sony is thought to have a similar vision for PS3...
Why are they adding all of this shit to my video game system? Fuck, computers are expensive and I already have one. If I wanted to play video games on my computer then I'd fucking be doing it already. I bought my PS2 and XBox because they were relatively inexpensive and were focused on gaming.

I don't want to spend $500 or whatever on a new integrated, digital lifestyling, entertainment hub, damnit! I want to spend $200 on a new box that has better graphics, loads quicker, and has better AI. I don't need it to do a fucking thing else!

The more things these fucking things do, the more the price is going to go up. And the more the price goes up, the more difficult it will become to justify my gaming habit. Fucking technology pisses me off sometimes. Not in a creepy Unabomber type of way, but more in a grumpy old man type of way.

Well you know microsoft. They get a foot in somewhere and suddenly they want the world.

Anyway, MS has been planning this for a long long time. I actually heard about this about 2 years ago when I purchased my UltimateTV (tivo like system). MS discontinued it shortly after I purchased the system. They stated that they are planning on building a system that will combine PVR functionality with the Xbox and other entertainment features so that they could become a leader in the home entertainment business.

I'm not surprised that Sony is following in their footsteps. Nintendo plans to stay in the game system only mode.
