though we RAN "no SMACK" during the week: PROPS to the COLTS on their WIN over the Browns.

the Colts Defense is awfully FAST and Effective.

hope your Offense gets "untracked."

i am SHOCKED that "our" buncha ragtags could keep your Team in check. (13 pts.)

its kinda Wierd that the Colts are 3-0 due to Defense.

could be a g00d thing--->PROPS to the Colts!

Q, I briefly considered calling you out last week, but I wasn't sure if I would have enough time to do the conversation justice.

But anyway, the conversation around here regarding the Colts offense goes like a see-saw.

-It's pretty darn nice to be 3-0
-But should we be worried that we haven't see the 4 and 5 touchdown games from last year?
-No, because we have faced a tough Ravens defense, and underrated Jags defense, and Romeo Cronell who has historically slowed Peyton Manning down from the Pats sideline.
-But has the rest of the league figured out the Colts offense?
-Maybe, but we're still winning games because our D has kept them under 10 points 3 weeks in a row.

Personally, I am loving watching the Colts D play like this. Wins are wins and I'm not all that worried about the offense. From what I've seen, it looks like they're just not as sharp as they could be. I've seen Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, and Dallas Clark all drop balls this year that they didn't last year. I've see Peyton throw into triple coverage, as he did yesterday for the pick, a few times. He was a lot smarter with the ball last year. I think it's a little bit of the league figuring Peyton out and a little bit of the O just not being what it was a year ago. The 2-tight end set that worked so well before isn't as sharp becasue of the loss of Marcus Pollard to FA. I think in a couple more weeks, you'll see this Colts O gel into it's new self which relies more on Edgerrin James and the pass complements him rather then vice-versa. And the scores will creep back up into the 20s and 30s.

But sorry to you fantasy guys who jumped all over Peyton Manning.

I'd love to prop the Browns for hanging in there, but I thought the Colts gave Cleveland a few gifts on their 3rd down calls. They got super conservative on that last FG drive and had two others stall out at midfield because they ran Edgerrin on slow-developing toss sweeps on two different 3rd-and-shorts. Playcalling like that might come back to bite them against a better team. Still, the Browns line never came close to breathing on Manning all day and to give up only 13 is something to build on.

The playcalling is another thing that is good and bad.

You see the Colts rely on the stretch play a lot more in these three games. That stretch play is what usually sets up the play-action which creates the big plays. But it seems like O Coordiantor Tom Moore is having Peyton go to the run more this year becasue they've learned that they're going to have to rely on it in January in order to get to the Super Bowl. So they're running it a ton now in order to get it refined and sharp for the playoffs. Then, once it becomes the trend, the big play off play-action will be there more often. Whereas they used to set up the play-action over the course of a 5 play drive. Now, it seems they're setting it up over the course of a season.

Plus, before they knew they had to score to stay ahead. Now, with the D playing the way it is, they have the confidence to know that scoring everytime they have the ball is not neccessary.

With the way the D is playing- it seems the road to the Superbowl in the AFC is being played on the fast track turf of the RCA dome...

In 3 weeks, the Rams come to town on Monday night. That will be the first "true" test of this D. And it will probably prove to be a true test for the O as well. Do they still have it to score when neccessary? We'll see then.

Any team that relies on a precision passing attack is going to be affected by disruptions to their timing. IMO, the worst thing for a high octane passing offense that is on a roll is a week off.

of course, if the Colts newfound commitment to the run is for real...
