Watching a Thurman Munson tribute on YES

Post by chowd103 »

/Rain delay NY....(Boston got rained out. Day-night double-header tomorrow.)

Munson......dude was a dirt dog. He would have fit right in with today's Red Sox.

This guy was nails. He played hard, never said shit and called a good ball game.

Props to #15. Always respected that guy.

Munson was my idol. I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the day he died. I still have the newspape articles from it too.

WTF have you gone soft, man??

1) Munson and Fisk were players from a totally different era. Neither would fit in with today's Prima Donnas...

2) Munson did play the game hard but he always talked SHIT!!, yes, he did CALL a good game.

3) No, I Never respected the guy. To me it's like respecting Son of Sam for his cunning skills and winning personality.. (that is being said form my FANATICAL side of being a fan!)

4) In retrospect and being totally objective (which I am not when it comes to baseball). Munson was a decent catcher but not a HOFer. I don't know if he would have been if played more years ... we will never know.. but he did play the game with Heart and Soul...and his loss was a tragedy !!!

Read this...

http://www.thedeadballera.com/MunsonFisk.html

Fisk had more power, was an excellent catcher and played a long time. Munson was a better hitter, was a three-time Gold Glove winner and was the team leader and played on two world's championship teams and three straight pennant winners. Fisk played on none. Munson hit .373 in three World Series, Fisk .240 in one. Fisk has the homerun in the 6th game of the 1975 World Series that will live in infamy.....

Apparently a little.
Dude, all I'm saying is that I respected what he was about. His approach to the game.
Hated him because of the stripes, but ya gotta give that gritty guy props.

That's all.

Bzzzzzzz! Wrong! They'd get along fine with many guys on this 'Sox team.

Trot, 'Tek, Billy Mueller, Johnny D, Papi, Timlin... etc.
(then we'd have 4 catchers.)

Take off those Yankee colored glasses, brother. :)
Morbid site, Jack.
