Ron Zook is a complete moron
(Quote from the Iowa City Press Citizen. Illinois plays at Iowa on Saturday)
UNHAPPY READER: Illinois coach Ron Zook apparently reads the Press-Citizen.
During his Tuesday press conference, Zook made mention of a story that appeared in Tuesday's paper.
As Florida's coach, Zook referred to Iowa's Nate Kaeding as a running back before the 2004 Outback Bowl. Kaeding was an All-American kicker, who booted three field goals in Iowa's 37-17 win over the Gators.
"I know the Iowa papers are complaining about me not knowing the Iowa kicker's name in the bowl game," Zook said Tuesday. "I just get off a recruiting trip and I just found out we're playing them in four days, and I'm supposed to know their personnel?"
Zook's response to the question about Kaeding came from a Dec. 28 press conference, three weeks after the pairing between the Hawkeyes and Gators was announced.

Zook was fired as a specials teams coach by The Steelers. So the answer was then to run the Aint's into the ground offensivly (isn't difficult with their history I know) and after all this he is given the HC spot at UF??? WTF!!!!

Sometimes, one is offered a stark reminder that we're dealing with Athletics here.
Is there an exhaustive process for selecting coaches? Did Stanford go through one when they hired Walt Harris?
Heck, not even Notre Dame appears to check references much.
The worst example of this for me will always be the hiring of Ron Erhardt by the Steelers during the interminable Kordell years. The guy was summarily run out of San Diego, and the Steelers hire him as their OC? Of course, it was a disaster...
