Oklahoma Fan needs to come clean with the AD rumors
There are a ton of AD rumors floating and now they are catching the ear of other media people. Give us the low down.

common man after what Carson Palmer has done in the NFL, and how RB's are a dime a dozen, do you really think AD gets picked before Matt? hell the question wont be is AD the #1 pick, its whether to take Reggie Bush or Chris Leak.. (Granted they both have to declare first) but I think both Leak and Bush get drafted before AD..

Since 1980 there have only been 4 RB's drafted #1 over all. (Ji-Jana Carter '95, Bo Jackson '86, George Rogers '81 and Billy Simms '80) while there have been 13 QB's drafted #1 over all.. All im saying is, I think it would be really rare if a RB gets drafted #1 over all. the teams that usually draft #1 over all, have more pressing needs than RB.. This is by no means a knock at AD as I think he is going to be a fine NFL RB.. just not a #1 overall pickBelieve the Heupel wrote:Sorry-next year, as in AFTER next year. Though I've seen comments from gurus that would have had him the #1 pick this year if eligible.

George Rogers a bust? I think not.Vito Corleone wrote:I guess it doesn't bode well when 2 of the 4 mentioned running backs were busts and another had his career cut short because of injury.
I think only Billy Simms was worth a damn.
George Rogers' career NFL stats. Suffice it to say that a lot of NFL RB's gladly would have traded careers with him.
Sims also had his career cut short by injuries, IIRC.

I forgot about Simms Knee injury, it did cut his NFL career a bit short but in the beginning he was a total badass. I believe Simms still put in about 7 good years in the NFL which is above normal for a runningback.
Hell Earl Campbell played 7 but was used up by 5 years.

AD is an every down back with the size and speed to average 25 carries per game.
Reggie in the NFL will be a situational player.

AB, when I first read this I thought WTF? but after looking at reggies carries and stats, and then at AD's.. you are absoutly correct. with 2 inches and 10lbs.. AD is the more complete back. While Bush can do some things on the field noone has ever seen. he has never proven that he can carry the ball 25-30 times. hell in his entire college career he has only carried the ball 20 times once. (last week vs Oregon) the rest are mostly 12-16 carries. I think Bush in the NFL is a kick returner/posession receiver not a running back.Vito Corleone wrote:Hell no Reggie ain't going ahead of AD.SoCalTrjn wrote:if Reggie Bush stays at USC for his senior year and then goes to the NFL draft you think AP gets picked before him?

To this day, he holds the NFL record (actually shares it with erstwhile teammate John Riggins) for most consecutive games with at least one rushing touchdown (13). That alone says something about his producivity in short-yardage situations, if nothing else.Vito Corleone wrote:Rogers numbers do not back up the draft position He was traded after 4 years to the skins.

Call it the Bum Phillips Syndrome -- overusing a running back early in his career. Remember who coached Rogers in the pros?Hell Earl Campbell played 7 but was used up by 5 years.

In college, Reggie reminds me of Rocket Ismail -- literally a threat to score a touchdown from anywhere on the field, in any scenario. Of course, Rocket failed to produce at the same level as a pro, and I suspect the same will happen to Reggie.peter dragon wrote:AB, when I first read this I thought WTF? but after looking at reggies carries and stats, and then at AD's.. you are absoutly correct. with 2 inches and 10lbs.. Actually, IIRC, it was conventional wisdom at the time that Mandarich would be the #2 pick. In fact, right around that time SI did a cover piece on him. It was titled something like "The future prototype for linemen."Cornhusker wrote:That and the ultra-moronic decision by the Packers to take Michigan State's steriod boy before Sanders.Believe the Heupel wrote:Yes, Billy Sims blew out a knee and his career ended early. I actually expected Deion Sanders to go ahead of Barry Sanders as well.

"Let the name of Mandrich be stricken from ever book and tablet. Stricken from ever pylon and obelisk of Green Bay. Let the name of Mandrich be unheard and unspoken, erased from the memory of man, for all time."
I believe that's what Sethi said in The Ten Commandments.
But ya, he was the most dominating player I saw play tackle in college.
I agreed with the decision at the time, but damn, what a freekin' bust and to watch Sanders, who inspite of playing for Detroit, was one of my all-time favorite players in the NFL.
(Side note, Sanders and Thurman Thomas NEVER beat Nebraska while at Okie ST. Nor did Gale Sayers (Omaha native) while at Kansas.)

Bush will do well in the NFL. He will be much like a Marshall Faulk.
AD, who knows? He got hurt last year. Rumors are he's hurt this year. He may be one of those great talents that just can't hold up.
If AD has these nagging injuries the next couple years, his stock will be WAY down. I'd take AD over Bush today. Another injury or two, my money's on Bush.

I don't know enough about AP to say whether or not he'll be better/worse than Bush at the next level. I do know that several NFL scouts have indicated that Bush will be highly sought after. I think one of the quotes was something like:
"No offense in the League today has an asset like Bush. The offense that gets him will tag him a franchise player and completely retool their personnel to compliment him".
Pretty lofty stuff. Can't find the link to this though.

OUInsider.com wrote: Stoops wasn't happy to be shooting down another rumor about his star running back.
"I have no idea what those (rumors about legal trouble) would be," stated Stoops. "A lot of times there are rumors that are false so I have no clue what any of those would be. Just like the issue that was in the paper last weekend, that's created by the media."
Stoops was then asked to confirm if Peterson was in good standing with the team and whether he would play on Saturday.
"Absolutely," he replied. "You guys don't bring me in to that. He's practicing as hard as anyone we've got here and he's in perfect standing with us and working his butt off and he looks great."

That's basically all I've heard/read this week.Every conceivable rumor imaginable is floating around here in the press, on the radio, and at the watercooler. He's disgusted with his teamates, the play-calling, the coaches, and on and on. Now there are rumors he is going to quit the team or transfer. The oldtimers keep bringing up Joe Don Looney and Marcus Dupree. A lot of sooners seem to be genuinely concerned. I think it's all BS. Peterson's got to be upset, but I don't think he's a quitter. It sure is fun to watch.

The whole reason i didn't mention the rumors is because all I've heard is that some sports radio DJ mentioned AD with Crushing news, yet didn't back it up. And don't act like all these rumors are false because I seem to remember a rumor floating that he was in trouble for skipping class, i also remember a rumor he was in a fight how did that one turn out.
Skull I think your real problem is that a lot of the rumors have proven correct.

i don't know--but i read a post on Tigerboard.com early yesterday morning (before there was anything rumor-wise) that linked to another CFB board (one that i'd never heard of) and the original "rumor" post that included drugs/AD was authored by an OSU fan--though the drugs in question were not the same as Killain mentions above.
the post was yanked pretty quick from Tigerboard. the author of the post cited "rivals" premium sources...but for hours nothing turned up on any of the OU sites--where there are indeed Rivals premum subcribers. so, that made me suspicious.
i still have the link--but it's not much to see and proves nothing. i will not post it on this board--it's pointless to contribute to unsubstantiated rumor. Or: help Vito scurry over to hornfans with it. ;)
is it possible there are problems with AD, sure. but, consider the sources thus far. and USA Today also lists Akim Millington as "questionable" this week--and he quit the team a month ago.
that's all i know.
