Tearing Down the West Coast Myth...
In the Tahoe Daily Tribune???? Whatever... It's a very good read.
It assesses all the conferences since 1990 -- so we're dealing with current day. My favorite stat: In that period, only the Pac-10 has had every team end up in the season-ending top 10 at least once. That shows a lot of balance and no push-overs. no other conference comes close.
Here it is

I bet you did a simular look at defenses the PAC 10 would be the only conference to not have a single defense in the top 10. Well maybe Washington might get one in.
Just like a Pac 10 homer to forget that defense win championships.

Miami has not won a national championship as a member of the ACC. Penn State has not won a national championship as a member of the Big 10. To include those two schools in their respective current conferences' totals is disingenuous.Vito Corleone wrote:I believe the ACC has also had 3

if Penn State won one in the 90's that would give the Big 10 3 with
Michigan
OSU
Penn State

They won the national championship in 2001, while a member of the Big East. Their last national championship prior to that (shared with Washington in 1991) was as an independent.SoCalTrjn wrote:miami wasnt in the big east when they won

If you can explain the benefits of ND joining the Big 10, or why they lost the NC in '89 and '93, feel free. Until then, you're quickly trying to add yourself to the bitch race.Cicero wrote:Big Ten should have 3 cause Notre Dame won in 1993, oh wait............

but then would the SEC be the daddy since they have had 4 NC's in that 15 year period...which is 27%???
no other conference has 4 total NC's...as a whole conference...not the new Big 10 in 93 and the new ACC and the Big 12...just straight up how the conferences were...
just sayin...
keep up the good work mTard...you and Jon will make a lovely bride and groom...

If you are going to trash the Big Ten, stick with Indiana.
And, the Pac 10 has the only school in either the Big Ten or Pac 10 never to go to the Rose Bowl in Arizona.
ha ha Texas beat Arizona to the Rose Bowl

Only a tard would think I wrote this...
the truth
and only a tard like you would keep posting nonsensical drivel regarding the PAC 10...i mean it was 19FUCKING90...on up...surely you could do better...go back to 1980 and see what the numbers are, 1960??? you see that is the difference between you and the rest of this board...you gulp this shit up like a carp in that dirty piss filled lake at the local amusement park, while the rest of us know better than to believe every story in out there...yes the numbers are there but it is an arbitrary start date...how about we go back to 188something and let Michigan and ND claim bode on all of us? How about the 1930's and 1940's and Army can claim bode...
and since your KAL eduated brain couldn't comprehend what I meant about keeping up the good work...well I'll let you think about it a little more...
i hear precious metal pricing is dropping shouldn't you be out scouring the local can depositories asking the bums if you can buy whatever is in their shopping carts to make your little wind thingies out of coke cans...?
Well first of all, this article is a piece of crap. A few stats mixed in with bias and half truths.
As noted, you can makes stats say whatever you want.
However, if one could discount tradition and offered every AD from the major conferences the opportunity to play in any other conference, I think the answer is easy.
The Big10/Big 12/SEC/ACC all end up killing each other. Two or three teams are hyped before the season but only one can make it out unscathed. And sometimes no one makes it out unbeaten.
Yes, the Pac10 has parity but when they only have one great team every 3-4 years, it makes it a lot easier to run the "gauntlet."

Yes, the Pac10 has parity and when they have many good teams every year, it makes it tough on the rest of the country...
