Skull's Annual "I Hate Tejas" Post, V. 6.0

Post by the_ouskull »

Well friends, here we are again... It's Monday of OU / Texas week. So, I present to you:

NO RINGS

A story of a "rivalry..." By: the_ouskull

----------

It started rather simply, back in the Year 2000 of our Lord. Mack Brown, simple man as he is, was sitting around his great big ol' orange office. He only had one thing on his mind.

"This is my 17th year of coaching. I think it's high time I went out there and won myself a ring, what do you think Chrissy?"

Image

"Yes, Chrissy, I know that that is what I TOLD you, but Major's still here too. You two are gonna have to fight for it. At the end of your battle, I'll decide on the best quarterback then, based on my 17 years of head coaching experience.

Image

"Chris, Chris, Chris... How many times do I have to answer that question for you? (Editors Note: This is known as "foreshadowing.") I already told you that you're my boy. Now go on out there and earn the trust of your receivers."

-----

"Are you sure about this, Chris?"

Image

"Yes Roy, it's what I had to do for Coach Brown. Now you want to win him his first championship, don't you?"

"I guess so, man. After all, it's all about...

Image

...okay, let's make it quick."

Image

----------

Well friends, we all know how THAT story ended... Mack didn't get...

Image

Bob did. Then, in 2001, although OU beat Texas head-to-head, doing its best to keep Mack out of the exclusive "I've been coaching for 18 years and have one Conference Championship ring to show for it" club, our beloved Sooners weren't able to handle their business against a couple of lesser rivals...

...however,

Image

is an elusive one.

----------

[Announcer #1] And the view from the bench is a miserable one. [/Announcer #1]

Image

[Announcer #2] That's right, pardner. Chris Simms, sporting a severely wounded pinky finger, can only watch as Major Applewhite is expected to come into the game against a fired-up Colorado team and clean up the mess that Simms himself began. [/Announcer #2]

[Announcer #1] Yes sir, we can only imagine what must be going through Chris Simms' head as he sits there, watching his backup lead this team back from the deficit that his play put his team in. [/Announcer #1]

Image

[Announcer #2] ...and what about Coach Brown. I wonder if he's willing to admit that he might have made a mistake about his starting quarterbacks. [/Announcer #2]

[Announcer #1] Well, he DID make a mistake, and the whole world knows it. If he's not willing to admit that, either he's a complete idiot, or he's gonna be looking for a new line of work soon. [/Announcer #1]

Image

----------

And, once again Sooner fans, as we know, Mack is not looking for a new line of work...

Come with me now into 2002. Mack's 19th year of coaching. He was still searching for

Image

...while the man who had become his arch-nemesis, Bob Stoops,

Image

was after

Image

It was already shaping up to be another battle for the ages in the Cotton Bowl. Trent Smith, always shy and reserved, gave his thoughts on the game:
"Burnt orange makes me puke," he said. "I never wanted to play for a team with a cow on its helmet."
While Coach Brown, on the other hand, showed the fire and grit that has made him an almost-winner for 19 years...
"I don't get into the other coach," he said. "It's the program that makes the difference."
(Editors Note: Yeah.)

Well, history, harsh mistress that it is, was on the side of the Sooners as they won

Image

and saw Mack Brown's precious hopes dashed yet again. In fact, Coach Brown was doubly hurt by the season's outcome, keeping the Longhorns at home in Texas while the Sooners got to travel to the winter home of the Longhorns, although a bit further North...

Image

...and the Sooners bothered winning while they were in that state too.

----------

2003. Mack's lucky number 20. Surely this would be the year. Chris Simms had finally graduated on to bigger and better things...

Image

...and it was time to make room for Mack's newest prodigy. Mack was determined to win this game against OU. He knew that, with his defense loaded with NFL players... and a few college ones... that he'd be able to make this, 2003, his 20th year of coaching, the one in which he'd overcome Bob Stoops and finally get to grasp...

Image

But first, he had a few internal "issues" to deal with...

Image

Hmmm... Well, his athletic "quarterback's" psyche aside, Mack was ready. There would be no more tricky wind. There would be no more doing of answering of other people's questions. It was go time. Mack was tired of not standing up for himself. Mack was ready. It was his year. It was his time. This was the year he would finally be known as a champion !!!

Image

After the game, Mack was beside himself...

"I don't get it. Where did Vince learn to do those things...?"

Image

Image

"I mean, the least we could have done is send Roy out of here with a win against OU."

...but we all know that story Sooner fans... it was not meant to be.

Image

----------

2004 would be a new beginning. His star quarterback was throwing the ball more and more. His team was really coming together. He had a sure-fire 1st round pick in Derrick Johnson. This was his year.

"21 years / 3 jobs prior to this one is seven, and seven is a lucky number. Oh yes."

However, as Mack has been prone to do... he forgot to factor in one small detail. While Mack was still searching for

Image

Coach Stoops, his arch-rival had moved on a bit further past that...

Image

...and Coach Stoops believed in a different kind of math.

http://www.mackbrown-texasfootball.com/ ... 100904.htm

See, to Coach Stoops, you take the lucky number, and subtract from it the number of OU's consecutive wins... 7 - 4 = 3. Then, from there, you subtract the number of Conference Championships that Coach Stoops is gunning for... 3 - 3 = Texas' score in 2K4.

Editors Note: Coach Stoops did not major in math. While his logic may have been flawed, his gameplan was not. Besides, the differential equasion that figures in pre-season hype and strength of recruiting class is based solely on the value of Mack, which is 0.

Stoops, on the other hand...

Image

----------

Now we're back... It's 2005. Texas has been playing very well so far. They're clicking on all cylinders... I mean, except for their vertical passing game and their quarterback's decision-making. (Run or Run?) ...and their run defense.

...but that's okay. Mack isn't scared. He's still sitting, 22 years in, in his office, fearless...

Image

He knows that this time it really IS his year. It's not like the past five "his years." This one is legit. He's really gonna do it this time. He's even told people so.

Image

But, at the same time that he's coaching with a newfound confidence and his team is playing with a renewed vigor, he's showing the country a more well-rounded coach; a coach more ready to deal with the rigors of big-game coaching.

-----

Mack. It's 4th and 1 and you're down by 2.

Image

Mack. 1st and 10. You just ran the opening kickoff back to the 50.

Image

Mack. Bob Stoops is on Line One.

:mack:

Uh oh. Trouble in paradise?

Not really... False bravado and dopey magazine covers that he later tried half-*ssedly to apologize for aside, deep down, all Tejas fans, players, and even coaches know the truth... Enjoy the spotlight while you can... it goes away when you lose. As OU fans, we know this first-hand. But that's cool... we were under the radar in 2000 too, and that is the year that started all of this business. So, better team or not... Better record or not... There is one VERY important difference on the field on Saturday, or, rather, on the sidelines...

Image

vs.

Image

...and that's when the truth hits you like a ton of your strength and conditioning coach...

Wow all that crap for a team that is going to kick OU's ass all over the cotton bowl.

Stoops is a great coach but this year is different. Texas is the better team plain and simple. I could care less about the last 5 years because in retrospect the better team won all 5 years. This year we are the better team.

I really hope OU gets cocky for the game because they will get punked worse than A-Rod on MTV.

Texas by at least 21.

Nice rant I guess job search took a back seat to the one board. Nothing like a post that goes on for 10 pages and says nothing. I would be impressed if you weren't going to get your ass kicked on Saturday. I guess living in the past is all you have left. Enjoy your thread, its all you got left.

This is what six years running we have been hearing this. Did Mack get fired and no one tell us about it? Forgive if I haven't drank the after birth Orange cool aid just yet.

Live in the now spooner. This is 2k5 not 2k. Bob stoopid is not going to take anyone by surprise like he did in 2k. The 2k5 sooners suck, you have 2 losses but lets not forget you have lost to TCU and UCLA. The same TCU that lost to SMU! The same UCLA that took it in the ass from Wyoming! We are talking two losses to two shitty teams. Your qb is a turnover machine, your oline leaks like old faucet and peterson is banged up to shit. Even your D sucks this year; hell they have sucked since Mikie stoopid left the program. Your DE position is one step away from open tryouts and your Dbs are so toasted they need to be scrapped after every game just to identify the body.

On Saturday Texas is going to bring 5 years of frustration and insert it into your collective Asses.

I have a feeling that Mack is going to run it up on ole Bobby. I hope he does. He took it easy on Mizery. We could have scored 80. I say kick em while they are down. I would love to see a repeat of the 03 OU/A & M game. The only difference is I wouldn't take out my starters and I would run it up just like Bobby did. I cannot wait to see the visor fly and the smug look he gets when he is getting his ass kicked. That is the new Stoops look for 05. First USC, then TCU, then UCLA, and this week UT.

Epic Skull. Rack.

The funny thing, on the local sports station they were interviewing Roy Williams and he was asked if Texas would finally break through and beat OU. He hesitated and said he wasn't sure because Mack Brown constantly gets out coached by Stoops. The radio guy pointed out that Texas was the more talented team this yeat, but Roy said he thought they were more talented when he was there and they still lost. He doesn't believe in Brown and he wouldn't say one way or the other if Texas would win.

See, that's the difference between me and the Tejas fans on this board... I've been posting one of these every year, win or lose. It just so happens that they've all been wins. If we lose, it's not like I won't be in here... but part of being a fan of your team is being confident in your team... and what reason would I have to NOT be confident. We've won five in a row. You can talk about "hanging your hat on history," or whatever all you want, TejasFan, but I don't HAVE to do that. WE'VE WON FIVE IN A ROW !!! That doesn't happen often in this series... and, unless you win a National Championship this year, which we ALL doubt, nobody cares about whether or not you beat Oklahoma. And if you don't with the NC, maybe you'll get Mack that ring that doesn't have the word "South" or "Recruiting" on it, but I doubt that too.

You know, if you beat OU, congrats to you, and I'll be in here Sunday or Monday to discuss the specifics... but if you don't, it's just another day in the office as far as OU is concerned. We punch in, you get clocked. Get used to it. Your wins are going to be few and far between as long as our respective coaches are on the sidelines and we BOTH know it.

I make posts like this for fun and because they piss you the fuck off. Especially you, A_B. The bigger the bitch, the harder the fall, right?

Last year I would agree that Mack was a problem. He had not won a big game at Texas. That is the difference with this team now. We have won a few big games since last October. Has OU? I don't think so. We won our bowl game and beat a team in the top 4. What have you done this year? I think the sooners are still in shell shock over the beating they took from USC in January.

Here I will recap:

Punked by TC fucking U who then lost to SMU. Are you kidding me? In Norman??????

Barely squeak by Tulsa. Fucking Tulsa. You scould have played Tesla and the out come would have been in doubt in the 4th quarter.

Got bitch slapped by UCLA. We lost to them 8 years ago. They absolutely dominated OU. They aren't even that good.

Beat a pathetic KSU team.

Now comes a game against a good team. If you think you will show up and win because Stoops is on your sideline, you are crazy. Last year I would give you that. Mack has figured out what it takes and it will show this Saturday.

You wanna lay 31 points on a Sig Bet then...?

You haven't scored 44 points on us, TOTAL, since 2001, and now, suddenly, you're gonna hit 44 on us?

Man, re-think your thinking.

I'll agree that we're not going to move the ball up and down the field on you, LIKE WE USUALLY DO, but it's not like you're going to either. ...and if I'm wrong, props. Mack will have finally won a big game.

...but spare us the Michigan / Rose Bowl argument. The Rose Bowl IS a big game, but VY won that game, not Mack. If Vince had run the plays that Mack sent in, Tejas loses by 10+ instead of banging one off the crossbar. Instead Vince just plain ran, and Mack can call it "his" big win.

...and don't act like you believe what you're saying either. I, personally, think it's gonna be a good game. I don't think it'll be a blowout either way. But I'm not lacking confidence in our ability to win this game one bit. I didn't thiink that we'd blow you out in 2000 either... Or 2003. Or shut you out last year. Who knew? Who knows? But, you've at least got more than most: A chance to put your money where your Tejas-sized mouth is...

Your sig, should you choose to accept it: "The better team always wins OU / Texas... but the better team is always Oklahoma. God Bless Bob Stoops." It's simple though, wear it for a week, plus one day for every point we beat you by.

So, you're ACTING confident and ignorant of recent history. Are you?

The only recent history I see is a 2-2 record for OU and losses at home to TCU and on the road to UCLA. That is recent history. Each year is different.

As far as a for Mack why criticize when they lose and give no love when they win? That comment that Vince was the only reason we beat Michigan is ignorant. It was a team effort. Just like when we lost to OU the last 5 years. The coaches can gameplan but it is the players that play the game. OU's were better and they won.

Just beccause I think Texas is going to walk up and down your ass all weekend, doesn't mean I will give you 31. That is stupid. The spread is 14. I will give you that. I will think up a sig if you want to bet.

You are really reaching. I guess that since you gave me such an easy sig it was going to happen this week. But, let's follow your argument:

You keep bringing up the last 5 years and are using that as your bell curve for your arguments. You also think that since Mack is Texas' coach and you have Bobbah... it's a done deal. You too are pretty confident. So based on your logic let's do a sig bet.

The average score over the last 5 years has been 38-9 OU. Give me 29 points and you are on.

Umm...just curious. Since when do we start giving points on sig bets? Harv gives skull 29, and if t.u. beats ou by 28, Harv has to wear a sig stating that they are somehow inferior to ou???

Doesn't make sense...

Hey, I figure WTF, right? I'm willing to lay 29 points out there for my squad. What reason do I have NOT to, right? :D I've seen us win by 49 and 52 in the last five years... I'll take it. Sometimes you gotta say "What the Fuck?"
