Dan Fouts
i can't believe how bad this guy is--after him doing the Oklahoma-Texas game today. Fouts makes Gary Danielson look like he's got a four digit IQ.
Fouts will deliver some knee-knocker like: "that was a really good play!".
or: "Oklahoma will need to stop the Longhorns on this 3rd down if they want Texas to punt".
(which didn't happen very often),

I get home late last night and my wife tells me who called the game. Right there my excitement level drops about two notches knowing I will have to listen to them.
Some of the gems from both:
Fouts: Selvin Jones on the carry for Texas. (Multiple times)
Jackson: That was good coverage by the Longhorns on that punt. (Never mind OU kicked the ball.)
Fouts: That was a horrible call, just horrible. There was no contact on that replay.
Jackson: Don't you think it might have happened before that shot?
Fouts: (crickets)
Jackson: This is the 28th time both teams come into this game undefeated? (WHAT?)
There are plenty more, but those are just off the top of my head. Jackson may be a legend, but it is time for him to go. That or at least keep him on the left coast so the majority of us don't have to hear him.

Just curious: does it still take Jackson about 10 seconds to say Oklahoma?
I remember him most from calling the Oklahoma-Nebraska games in the '70's. He used to pronounce it something like OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-kla-HOOOOOOOOOO-MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

You forgot to mention how many times that Jackson gave the score and flip-flopped the teams. I counted at least three times and I only watched about half of the game. "The score at the end of the quarter Oklahoma 14 and Texas 6." "Oklahoma with a 31 to 6 advantage over Texas." :roll:Left Seater wrote:I get home late last night and my wife tells me who called the game. Either he was trying some Jedi mind trick to will OU back into contention or he's a fucking moron.
Well either that or the simple fact that old habits are hard to break.Rack Fu wrote:

Jackson is a legend. He's called more games than Mushbooger has popped zits. Hearing his voice and that corny hyperbole, along with that what's-his-name Hall of Fame QB, Fouts, brings a nice warm fuzzy feeling that not everything has become shizzle.
Same with Vin Scully, and I do miss Chick Hearn, R.I.P., even though at his advanced age he called Kobe Magic more than a few times....
I like tradition, cause too often it is temporary....
“It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance.”
Good, much less great announcers are not exactly littering the landscape. I used to enjoy Fouts on MNF, he brought some sanity to the Dennis Miller accident. IMO, there is plenty to laugh about within the direct context of a football game. Dennis tried too hard - Fouts tried to keep attention on the game.
I usually like to listen to ex-Jocks who have polished their communications skills. Jack Ham does the PSU radio color, and also Westwood One games...I like him a lot. Bill Fralic does Pitt games, which is also good.

I thought that old bastard retired a couple years back. Hope they made him give back all those lovely parting gifts.
