Wow, I misses the last quarter and heard the last few minutes sitting in the church parking lot......I asked God for help but I guess he was busy with important things. Anyway if this is any indication of future match ups this rivalry is back where it belongs.

"Doc's Inn" does not have a cross on it's roof. I've never seen a clergyman of any type in there. Are you sure it's a church?

Off the top of my head, and taking into consideration all the circumstances surrounding this game, this was the best USC-ND game ever.

Certainly it was the best in my lifetime.

Notre Dame Stadium...#1 USC awaits...and those green jerseys appear in the tunnel, for the first time in a quarter century or so...

Utter bedlam.

Fuckabunchaheathens, there's your real Mecca.

Exactly.

It's probably in the top five games I've ever seen, period.

Seven lead changes, both teams playing their asses off, the best player in the country showing why he is, high drama with huge stakes and an unbelievable atmosphere.

It was an amazing game.

I felt like I had just gotten off a 4-hour+ roller coaster ride after watching it. Fucking outstanding.

Actually, the green jerseys have appeared more recently than that, most recently in the '02 Fredo game. Against USC, IIRC the green jerseys last made their appearance in '85 (in the second half, after we had built a huge halftime lead -- can you say anticlimatic?).

Personally, I like the green jerseys, and I wish we'd wear them as our home unis for all games, as we did during the Devine era after the '77 USC game. But that's probably not gonna happen.

Best ND-USC game ever, or at least during our lifetime? Definitely. In fact, that one was right up there with the '88 ND-Miami game and the '93 ND-FSU game. Only problem was, this time the wrong team won.

There have been other ND-USC games in the somewhat recent past where the stakes were high -- '88 (where they went in ranked 1 and 2 on Thanksgiving weekend) and '02 (a BCS bid at stake on Thanksgiving weekend) come quickly to mind in that regard -- but in both of those games, the game itself was somewhat disappointing -- 27-10 ND in '88, 45-14 USC in '02.

I was a sophomore at ND when The Streak began, and because of that timing I was cheated, a little bit, about the feel for this rivalry. After awhile, it becomes hard to think of a school as a rival when you look at the schedule every year and mentally pencil in a W next to that school's name. Not to mention that Miami was emerging as a bitter rival at the same time, and that rivalry had a much different feel to it -- mutual hatred as opposed to mutual respect.

But if USC can continue to match its recent success, and this year is a harbinger of things to come for ND, and this game is a harbinger of things to come for this rivalry, that means that ND-USC is back to where it should be in the pecking order of college football rivalries, and that's a good thing. All is right with the world (or would be, if ND had won).

Just a fantastic game. I was meeting friends of mine up at a bar to watch the FSU game, but I ended up missing the first 8 minutes of the game, cause I couldnt leave my coach. That game was riveting. It was like Apollo Creed-Rocky Balboa, with the underdog doing almost the unthinkable. I would say it was the best football game I have watched since the tOSU/Miami MNC game in '02.

Terry, I guess the impact of '77 was so great on my psyche that in my mind's eye this past Saturday was the first time since that horrific day that ND pulled that dastardly stunt against us...

I'm not even an ND fan and still I got chills when I saw them coming out of the tunnel. Unbelieveably cool.

If I were an ND player emerging from that tunnel, knowing the effect we were about to have on that stadium, man, I'd be beyond sky high.

'77, '79 (remember, at that time the green jerseys were our standard home uniform), '83, '85 (only for the second half, anticlimatic as I said before), and this year.

That's five times in our lifetime. IIRC you guys also won the '79 game, so that would make you 3-2 against the green jerseys during that stretch.

I still do. And it's not nearly as gay looking as the Texas A&M Yell Leaders who give Frisco chills.
