WTF?? Michigan/PSU
No wrap-up? No comments?
Probably one of the greatest finishes in Michigan Stadium and there's no thread?
Michigan spoiling PSU's season and there's no thread?
PSU overrated? Michigan regaining some fight? Breaston coming out of his coma?

Killian's right. I probably dropped 20 posts about the game yesterday - where were you, doc?
The game of the weekend was definitely ND/USC. The PSU/UM game was just about as big.
Have anything to say about it? I'm listening.

Not so sure about the spoiling part. Not too many of us PSU fans, myopic ones aside, really thought they'd go undefeated and play in Pasadena. The reality of the matter is that PSU is still in the proverbial driver's seat for the B10 crown and a trip to a BCS game.DrDetroit wrote:No wrap-up? No comments?

Not so sure about the overrated part either. I think UofM is finally coming into their own and playing like they should. PSU gave 'em a helluva dogfight.
Michigan played the part of "spoiler" as it related to an undefeated season. That's the how the game was billed from Michigan's side all week.
It seems, though, Ken, that you think Michigan might not have been the underdog coming in? How does that square with PSU beating an alleged very good team in OSU?

Thanks for clearing that up, Kills. The dickless wonder known to us as Petey Dragon, apparently hasn't the brain tissue to figure that particular grammatical nuance out.Killian wrote:I think he meant "in" like "as in", not like "at".peter dragon wrote:you dont watch much college football do ya? go back to the SpinForum Jonny come lately..DrDetroit wrote:How does that square with PSU beating an alleged very good team in OSU?

Those who stay will be champions.
Doc, it means that on any given Saturday, any team can win or lose. Taking comparables too far is a common failing of the ESPN-literate.
I'll say this - OSU was driving late in their game against PSU. I felt certain they were going to score a TD and tie or win. Hali was going against a young kid at OL, and he was able to make a play and end the game.
The same situation was at work in the UM game. There were two major differences...one, Henne is a better passer than Smith, and he hit open guys. Two, Michigan's OL was good enough to protect Henne against PSU's rushers.
PSU sat back in zone coverage in both games. It burned them against UM, while it payed off against OSU. I'm not a fan of the defensive schemes that PSU runs - far too conservative. Teams march straight down the field against this defense, for the most part. I think that they needed to disrupt Henne to win this game, and to that end they should have been blitzing LBs like mad. I haven't seen a corner or safety blitz at PSU for years and years. They needed to bring different blitzes...instead they were content to be beaten in the zone.
One might rightly say that when they did blitz, they were beaten...on that final drive, I would have taken the chance. If you give up a big play, then at least you give Robinson another chance with time on the clock. Maybe you even come up with a big play. Instead, they played right into Carr's hands - outcoached again.
I've got an officiating rant for another time - too late tonight. One thing is for sure...PSU has some great players on defense and offense. I think the defensive gameplanning is very poor, however. At least there has been some real improvement with the offense, IMO.
