Vito, you are a fucking idiot.
Marshall Faulk is not a running back? LOL!!
Just because he can catch passes too, does not mean he's not a running back. He's averaged over 1,000 yards per season from 1994 - 2004. This is not a running back?
Was Roger Craig not a running back? 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving doesn't mean he's not a running back. Are you saying that a player has to be completely one-dimensional to be considered a running back? If this is the case then give me some of the "non" running backs any day.
Bush has had games this season of 86, 125, 122, 158, 110, 160 yards rushing. This isn't a running back? Give me a fucking break.

OK maybe I wasn't clear enough for you. Bush is not just a runningback. Translation, he is more than a runningback he can do it all, that is what is meant by the phrase All-purpose back. Bush can lineup as a runningback or split out as a receiver. What he is not on the Next Level is a runningback that a team can depend upon to carry the ball 30 times per game. Adrian Peterson is a runningback that can carry the full load.Mikey wrote:Vito, you are a fucking idiot.

I have no doubt that Bush will be one of the top 5 players selected in the draft when he comes out but that doesn't mean he is going to average 20-30 carries a game. If he did he would be out of the league in 5 years. He is going to be a guy who will touch the ball 10-15 times per game and that is being generous.
There is a term for quarterbacks that can run, they are called duel-threat that means they can both run and pass. Steve Young was a duel threat qb. Vince is a duel-threat, Leinart is not a duel threat. He is a drop back passer.

The point above was that no NFL QB truly achieves big game success until he stops thinking "Run!" at the first sign of trouble, and that "athletic" QB's never win much, and never for long either.Believe the Heupel wrote:See, the point was offered above that because V. Young is able to scramble for first downs that he wasn't a true QB.
Steve and Randall would beg to differ.
Randall never did end up winning anything and Steve Young didn't win until he finally became a more poised QB who threw first, second, third and fourth before finally giving in and running only when all else had failed.
Mike Vick is a perfect (and better) example of what Vince Young might one day hope to become: Talented as fuck, but undisciplined and sitting on the sidelines injured far too often.
How many games has Tom Brady missed in his career? How many his Vick already missed?
It's only goiing to get worse for Vick until he settles down and becomes a real QB instead of a sandlot ball physical freak. He may never get there either.
Sure, Vick (or Vince Young) could run where a Brady or a Leinart couldn't, but in the end who are you going to give the ball to when it's time to win a big game and you have to go eighty with two minutes left? Who's going to win you your national championship or your Super Bowl?

Also, I said Bush reminds me of Barry Sanders, only with more speed.
Actually though, yeah, Marshall Faulk with more speed is probably a better comparison. Bush is a better pass catcher than Sanders and more of the all around Faulk style back...
Maybe a faster Thurman Thomas? Little bit of everything as a back, but more of a threat to score from anywhere on the field. It's that aspect of Bush that most reminds me of Sanders.
A faster and more explosive Emmitt Smith also comes to mind. No way of knowing though if Bush will have the durability of these other every down backs...

I made the suggestion early in the thread that maybe Bush isn't big enough to be a full time NFL running back. At 6' 0" and 200 lb he's certainly tall enough, but maybe not heavy enough.Vito Corleone wrote:OK maybe I wasn't clear enough for you. Bush is not just a runningback. You don't know if he could last as a 20 to 30 carry per game back because he's never been used that way. But he's definitely fast and he's definitely strong. Remember he's only a junior this year and has bulked up even since last year. If he put on 15 to 20 lb of lean muscle in the next year or so you can be damn sure he'd be big enough, and would be scary as hell as a full time RB.
Van, I don't know if you remember Faulk when he first came into the league. He had unmatched ability to accelerate and at that time there was nobody, and I mean nobody, who could run the man down. I don't think Reggie is any faster now than Faulk was in college, though Marshall has for sure lost a step or two in the past 10 years.

he's much closer to Faulk than Sanders.
Barry had the quick elusiveness and the ability to change directions left and right instantly.
Faulk (and Bush) have that as well though not to the degree Barry did but they have more acceleration and strength than Sanders had.
they have that "off and on" speed needed to wait for a hole to open or follow blockers or just burst through a seam the second they see it.
Bush will line up at 2-3 positions in the pros.
Mike, yeah, I remember Faulk all the way back to S.D. State. He was fast, but he wasn't Reggie Bush "track star" fast.
I also don't think he was ever quite as elusive a runner as Bush is, but Faulk was smart as hell, he had great vision, he was tough as nails and as durable as anybody. He was also a good blocker and an all around solid back, in the Walter Payton vein.
If Bush can even get mentioned in the same breath with Faulk as a pro then he certainly will've panned out!
Also, as for whether or not Bush is big enough to play in the NFL? Joe Washington, Warrick Dunn, Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders and quite a few others were no bigger than what Bush will be as a pro. He'll be well over 200 lbs as a pro.
Could he be a 20-30 carries per game every down back? Honestly, nobody knows. Plenty of projected every down backs like Ron Dayne never really panned out while plenty of little guys proved their mettle far beyond expectations...
I just hope he desn't end up on the sorry fucking 49ers. I'd like to see him reunited with Mike Williams in Detroit but that NFC North is so pathetic that there's no way Detroit will fall low enough to get a shot at him.

Fresno State put 9 people into the NFL on Dilfer's team and Marshall Faulk ran through them like a hot knife through butter. That's when 50 to 47 was a normal score.
Lorenzo Neal is playing for San Diego
Trent Dilfer is with the Browns
Michael Pittman is with Tampa Bay (I forget if he was on Dilfer's team or not)
I think there are a few others around from that team in diminished roles.
Then on the other side of the ball Faulk was unstopable against I think were 4 future NFL (starter) defenders.
He wasn't that big either. Just durable. Reggie Bush is going to be a big time NFL back for Houston with David Carr. Too bad they'll have no blocking as I've said before.
edit: Cal's head coach was fired after getting beat up in Hippie Valley oddly enough with Jeff Tedford's offense. Weird. That coach said, "Ever see the NFL draft and how many they (Fresno St.) put in there?"
Larry Smith = fired after Dilfer and Co. beat USC badly.

Why are you guys so sure Houston is going to take Bush? They already have one of the better HBs in the NFL in Davis. The guy is still young and is an emerging star in the league. I don't know if there are any stud O linemen coming out this year like Robert Gallery or Orlando Pace, but they'd probably be better served taking a lineman.

From what I understand this is a pretty deep draft for offensive tackles. Texas has a junior OT named Justin Blalock who is being advised to not enter the draft. He does have 1st round ability but because the draft is so deep he would likely get pushed much lower than he should go. If he stays for his senior year he will likely be one of the top 3 linemen in the 2007 draft.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:Why are you guys so sure Houston is going to take Bush?
