Garcia to the rescue

Post by Shoalzie »

He came right in and managed the offense well. He was Mooch's guy in 'Frisco. I don't think he has a better arm than Harrington but his mobility and what he's got between the ears makes him the better choice right now. The defense is one of the best at causing turnovers in the NFL. If they give the offense a short field to work with, they've got to convert those chances and get cheap points. Right now, I think Garcia gives the Lions a better chance at winning the division. I was a bit cynical about his return and from how poorly he played in the preseason. Today, against solid defensive team and with very little depth at receiver, Garcia made it happen. He didn't turn the ball over and he was able to create plays with his feet. The Lions are far from a contender but I think the outlook for the rest of the season has improved with this change at quarterback.

Huge game next week at home with the Bears...both team at 3-3 on top of the division. The Bears have already beaten the Lions and have a 2-0 record in the division. Chicago could get a stranglehold on the North with a win on Sunday. With Kevin Johnson going down for the year, the Lions are left with Mike Williams, Scotty Vines and Glen Martinez as healthy receivers. Roy Williams should be able to return next week but Rogers has another week on his suspension. The Bears have a great defense, allowing the fewest points in the league through today's action. The Lions need some targets for Garcia to throw to hopefully open up the defense. With his ability to scramble should allow a receiver to get open is a play breaks down. Kevin Jones has ran hard but seems to leave each game with an injury. The return of Schlesinger should hopefully give him some more running room. I don't know what the future holds for Harrington but right now, I think Garcia has taken hold of this football team.

Garcia has it until the Lions trade for Rivers , or draft another QB .

Moochie can tailor the offense for Garcia , due to his not so strong arm , and his scrambling abilty . Garcia wasn't Moochie's choice in SF : Walsh signed him , and Garcia had to beat out scrubs like Mirer and Stenstrom to start . Not that hard really . But Garica had a solid running game , TO and Rice , so offensively , the Niners at that time were good on that side of the ball . Garcia plays like he has to prove something every game or play , is tougher than he looks ( and sounds ) , and pretty savvy . He also plays like he appreciates the opportunity , and he leaves it all on the field . He had it tough here . He was let go mostly due to salary , and Dumbfuckhue's plan to rebuild with 7th round draft pick QB's ( read : cheap ) . York payed him a lot of money though , and I think he finally might be off the books after this season .

Good luck to Garcia . He played his heart out here . I hope he does well in Detroit .

When it rains it pours, both Shaun Rogers and Dre Bly could miss time with injuries. The only thing keeping this team alive right now is their playmakers on defense that cause turnovers. They have 18 takeaways this year.

I haven't seen a line on the Bears-Lions game yet...I'd put money on Chicago if I had to. With Rogers likely out of the lineup and with the way (Thomas) Jones has ran the ball, this might get ugly just like Week 2. Garcia is going to have to play another mistake-free game but he's going to be running for his life with how poorly the line has played.

Just wait until C.Rogers returns. He better freakin produce. This selfish prick has cost us more than he's worth. We probably win the Carolina game if he's in, the selfish pothead cost us at least that game.
Fucking Spartan.

I knew you'd finish with a Spartan crack after that mini-rant.

It's aggrevating to think this team could very easily be 5-1 if the call on Pollard goes the other way and if the defense doesn't fall asleep on that last drive against Carolina. They've got a top 10 defense...look at the numbers. If they had any bit of an offense, they win the Tampa Bay and Carolina games outright. I don't like playing the "what if" game but that's really what's frustrating about this team. The offense was supposed to make strides this year but they've fallen on their face and Harrington loses his job. The defense is the only thing keeping them from hanging out with Green Bay and Minnesota in the cellar. Monster game on Sunday with Chicago...Garcia has the confidence of the team behind him. He's got to deliver.

I saw Dre Bly left the game. Do you know if that was anything serious?

Oh, and did you see that sign by Browns fan that read, "Hey Detroit, thanks for taking our trash", referring to Garcia. And Garcia goes in their and punks Cleveland. Ha...that didn't work out too well for Cleveland fan.

Latest report is a dislocated wrist that may or may not require surgery. His status for the game this week is questionable at best. He might have to play with a cast. Shaun Rogers has a sprained MCL...he too is questionable at best. They won't win without their best run-stuffer and shutdown corner/playmaker on defense.

I don't get how a cb could miss significant time with a hand injury. I hope he rubs some dirt on it and gets back in there. We need Bly. We've got more depth on the d-line to comphensate for Rogers (the real Rogers, that is). I love what Juron has done with this defense. I gotta believe it killed him to get rolled by Chicago a few weeks back (a day that shall be known as Joey's last stand), he'll have his guys foaming at the mouth for revenge. This defense has a chance to be special. If we could get the o-line straightened out the sky would be the limit.
