If anyone is interested in seeking refuge here in Canada, I'll post some links on seeking refugee status.

Lemme see. Lower crime, universal health care, better air quality, top flight public transit, less traffic....

I've been to his neck of the woods. It ain't that bad by a damn sight. If it wasn't for that whole expatriate thing, I'd consider going there myself.

Some pretty blanket generalizations there. If we're comparing Vancouver to South Central, then yeah, scoreboard Canada. But there are plenty of sweet places to live in CA that beat someplace that has winter 8 months of the year hands down.

BTW, your standard run-of-the-mill HMO still beats socialized healthcare any day of the week and all you need is a decent job to get that.

Other than the LA basin, the rest of the state, including SoCal has as good or better air quality than anywhere else in the US. We've got an ocean to our left pushing fresh air in every day. :D

If there's a better subway system than BART in the SF bay area, I haven't seen it. Although, SoCal's mass-transit completely blows, which is why no one uses it.

Other than in our inner cities, where EVERYONE'S crime rates suck, CA has relatively low crime rates compared to other states. Actually, add to that all outlying areas of San Diego, where many illegals steal when they first get here because they don't have a job yet. Anywhere north of there, even Northern San Diego county, there isn't much of a crime problem with illegals because there are plenty of agriculture jobs to be had.

Although I haven't been to Canada (but do intend to go someday), I've visited or lived in 11 countries and somewhere around 30 of the 50 US states for various lengths of time and I can honestly say that there is no place that I've ever been that is a better place to live overall than California.

Actualy I was comparing metro Toronto to SoCal. And no, Toronto doesn't have winter 8 months out of the year. Plus they have better beer, all nude strip clubs, professional football (sup LA?) MLB, NBA, and NHL, Younge Street, The Esplanade, the CN Tower and some Broadway level theatre for the old lady to blow money on.

And a quick check of the housing market in Toronto tells me that it looks a tad more affordable than anything in SoCal. Combined with excelent rail and bus systems and you have a place that is a hell of a lot more accessable than SoCal for the average working stiff.
