OT Great tribute to Johnny Cash last night OT
Last night my wife and I were lucky enough to enjoy an amazing show put on by a local radio station KILT. They gathered 10 artists and had them all on stage alternating singing their own songs. No bands or other fancy stage shows, just the artists and their gituars.
I am sure that there are plenty of you who don't enjoy country on this board, but I would bet next months house payment that every single one of you would have been into at least some of the music. They covered their popular hits, sang all time greats and even messed around with a few of each others songs.
Then at the end of the night all 10 performed a tribute to Johnny Cash with Amazing Grace and then two of the "man in black" songs. The 10 artists (Dierks Bently, Clint Black, Roger Creager, Kevin Fowler, Jack Ingram, Craig Morgan, Corry Morrow, Bobby Pinson, Tricia Yearwood, and Dwight Yoakum) all seemed to have a great time giving each other a hard time and sharing laughs at each others expense.
It was amazing to see such talented people who hadn't practiced together just be able to jump right in and play together as if they had just come off of a tour. Racks to the 10 artists for the show, the tribute to Johnny Cash, and to KILT for the great show in only a 3,000 seat theater for which they charged nothing for the tickets.

KILT is the best FM radio station in Houston. I loved that station because they always played the old country and not all that soft pop new shit that is on the airwaves today.
That being said, the only time I ever listen to anything besides sports radio now is when the wife is in the car with me.

I will keep an eye out for it. Not sure they will sell anything from this show though as most of the artists did it out of thanks to the station.
My neighbor however is the afternoon host and if anyone can get me a copy of the show it would be him.

I'd love to get a CD of this performance.
You should listen to his mentor, Merle Haggard....late '70s and '80s...

I'm glad Lefty enjoyed the show, but I've never been a fan of country music. About the closest I come to country music is some of the stuff from Charlie Daniels Band that crosses over onto rock stations.

I was run from this forum long before? Link?IndyFrisco wrote:You would know. You see shit in the mirror every day.
And since you got ran long ago from the CFB foum, we have rules for posting not CFB stuff here. Lefty knows this. You do not.
My own recollection tells me that I have rarely posted here, dumbshit.
So now you're going to Killian and simply about my posting for what? To appear as though you're smacking me? hardly.
Hey...nice music forum you have here, btw.

As soon as you build up as much cache as someone like Lefty, yep. Until then, nope.DrDetroit wrote:I get it now...I'll just have to include "OT" in my thread title...thanks for the tip.Killian wrote:Not to mention the little "OT" Lefty threw up in his subject.
Good try Dr., but you're getting desperate.

Wow, a thread that combines two of my favorite topics in one. Yes, Johnny Cash and what a flaming asshat Detard is. Since we all know all there is to need to know about the twat from Detroit, let's get back to the Man in Black.
And this is all that needs to be said about Cash.
Straight money. I'll be listening to him long after whatever Nashville's current flavor of the month has fallen back off the charts. Country music started to suck the minute men like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and their brethren were replaced by cock gobblers like Big and Rich who wouldn't dare piss off their corporate masters in the name of making good music.

That is why the show on Wednesday was so great. I think all but Tricia Yearwood are songwriters. They play what they write, and since they are writing it for themselves they aren't puppets.Country music started to suck the minute men like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and their brethren were replaced by cock gobblers like Big and Rich who wouldn't dare piss off their corporate masters in the name of making good music.

Ever.
And DTool has left the building.
(Nolesy, I said DTool in respect to your stance against "tard". However, I got a pocket wrench that is a little offended now. ;) )

This movie is seriously fuckin' good. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but Reese Witherspoon deserves an Oscar nomination for her June Carter. Joaquin Phoenix is dead-on with his Johnny Cash. DAMN good movie. Go see it now.
Someone else said the same thing about Reese Witherspoon...Could be a nice return for that Southern Belle....
