Fedorov traded to Columbus!?!?

Post by Shoalzie »

I'm not talking about Fedor either...

The Ducks trade Sergei to Columbus for Tyler Wright and Francois Beauchemin. I'm totally stunned by this move. Fedorov hasn't been able to stay healthy so he's no good to the Jackets if he's hurt. From reading a piece by Bob McKenzie on TSN.ca, he says this is clearly a salary dump by Anaheim. They free up $4.5 million. Salary dump is pretty obvious when you get a checking forward and a marginal defenseman. It'll be interesting to see the type of things Sergei can do with Nash...when both guys are actually playing. The Jackets are bad team right now but you never know what a trade like this will do inside the dressing room. Another interesting thing, coach Gerard Gallant was still on the Red Wings for Sergei's first three seasons...they do have a connection prior to him joining the team. A fascinating turn of events for sure...

This trade had better work out or Doug Maclean will be looking for work sooner rather than later. In the new salary cap era, taking on that much salary for more than one year better bring results...FAST.

Who is the Sucks go to forward? They are no better off now than when they had Steve Rucchin as their #1 center.

Fedorov wanted to be "The Man", Detroit wasn't good enough for him? Couldn't be happier the way things are turning out for him, ungrateful bastard.

I figured Gallant would get the boot before a trade, the Kings could have dropped 15 on them Sunday if they had really wanted to embarass them.

Watching the Blow Jackets pregame, the hosts are creaming themselves about the addition. Bucky Buckeye and the tOSU band are there as well.

I probably don't have the same venom towards him as you do and I know Blitzkrieg isn't a big fan of Sergei anymore either. When he's healthy and motivated, he's one of the most talented players in the sport. The fun thing will be him having face the Wings 8 times a year now that he's back in the division. The Wings thumped the Jackets in the first two meetings...I'd like to see what that team can do with Fedorov and a healthy Nash. I see him playing on a line with Nikolai Zherdev. He plays well with fellow Russians. He had Kozlov and Larionov in Detroit, he spent some time on a line with Stanislav Chistov in Anaheim last season. I think Zherdev and Fedorov can make a dangerous duo and then throw in Nash on the power play. They need to improve in goal but they have a decent blueline with the additions of Berard and Foote. Klesla hasn't been able to stay healthy this year...he's not quite lived up to high draft pick status yet. I'm looking forward to watching this game tonight before flipping over to the Wings and Flames at 8:30.

LOL, Columbus gave Sergei the #3 star when their team got shutout 2-0.

That's pretty bad. He played pretty well but a team that gets shutout, they don't deserve a star unless their goalie played well in the game. Denis should've had a star if anyone. Stepniak (sp) looks like a decent player for the Blues. Fedorov's presence should produce some add excitement to a stale franchise but they don't become a playoff team with just this move. They have a ways to go and until Nash is back, they're one of three worst teams in the league (and the Central Division).
