Warren Sapp.......done

Post by poptart »

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders placed defensive tackle Warren Sapp on injured reserve Saturday with a right shoulder injury, prematurely ending his 11th NFL season.

Sapp, who turns 33 next month, had been listed as doubtful during the week for Sunday's home game against the Miami Dolphins after injuring his shoulder during the Raiders' 16-13 win at Washington last Sunday.

He has a torn rotator cuff, the team said.

Sapp wasn't sure when he got hurt in the game. He had an MRI exam Wednesday and coach Norv Turner didn't immediately know the results, though Oakland downgraded Sapp to out on Friday's injury report.

"It's not a separation, no," Turner said Friday. "They're just making sure in terms of the structure and everything inside. I think we'll know something in a few days where he's at."

The team decided Saturday to place Sapp on IR for the final six games because the injury wasn't getting better. But it isn't considered career-threatening.

The loss of Sapp is a big blow for a Raiders defense that has made significant strides this season, and Sapp was having a comeback year after struggling in his first season with the Raiders in 2004 after nine years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He agreed to a seven-year, $36.6 million contract with the Raiders in March 2004, two months after winning the Super Bowl with the Bucs.

After spending much of last season as a defensive end in coordinator Rob Ryan's three-man front that didn't suit his skills, Sapp had moved back to the tackle position in the 4-3 alignment that he excelled in while making seven consecutive Pro Bowls for Tampa Bay.

To take Sapp's roster spot, the Raiders promoted offensive tackle Brad Lekkerkerker from the practice squad to the active roster. The 6-foot-7, 330-pound Lekkerkerker also was on the Raiders practice squad last year.

--------------------------

Tough loss for a defense that has already lost Charles Woodson for the season.

Sapp struggled last season when moved out of the middle of the line to play end. Son of Buddy did him (or the rest of the defense) no favor with that idiotic blunder.

This year, however, Warren has played very well IN THE MIDDLE for the Raiders. A real bright spot on the defense. Hate to see him out for the remainder.

His salary is set to spike up next season and I think it's possible/likely that W. Sapp has played his last game in 'duh gear.

Life goes on.

Sapp should retire, IMO.

"I hate him. Everybody says I'm supposed to be polite when I talk to you all, but I hate him. He talks too much, he doesn't make sense, he's fat, he's sloppy, he acts like he's the best thing since sliced bread. He's ugly, he stinks, his mouth stinks, his breath stinks, and basically his soul stinks, too. Not too many people have personalities like that and survive in life. I don't know how he does it."

Why is Raiduhfan ALWAYS the first to throw Al's signee's under the bus when they don't pan out or decide to go elswhere?
It's hype-city everytime an over the hill all-pro comes to Oakland, but holy crap when they prove why everone else "passed" on them, it's under they go with the rest of the corpses.

That's pretty much the nature of all fans.

You hope for every pick-up to pan out. You WANT them to pan out so much that it's sometimes tough to look at a signing objectively.

When someone flames you tend to take it a bit personally, and you generally hammer the player more than the organization for bringing him in.

It's not rational, but then again, it's really not 'rational' for any of us to cheer for the uniforms, which is basically what we do.
We don't 'know' any of these guys.
Well......except Fraudo....I think he's buddies with most of the NFLers.

Some of Al's retreads have paid off in a BIG way.
Others have not.
You hit some and you miss some.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate the Sapp pick-up as a 4.
He was misused last year.
This year he played quite well, got hurt and missed 6 games, and was overpaid.

Water under the bridge.

There are bigger fish to fry right now.

Whooa nellie! Parella was solid. the guy was an anchor in the middle, you of all should know that. Granted we got him at the end of his career(imagine that),but he was solid at DT.
